Maybe of interest to those who want to find a good way to carry things on the front of the body so they're easy to get at and take some weight off the back, eg water bottles, snacks, little camera etc.

These belt packs from Craghoppers look to be the best solution yet imho:

Different capacities, a waterproof roll top, and what look like sliding loop lock things to keep the water bottles from falling out. Probably better than wearing a Lifeventure bum bag back to front, which is what I do at the mo.

If... I...could... just... reach... my... utility... belt.

Bum bags at the front? Whatever next?
I guess though it may work for some but it gets on my nerves just having a quid bouncing around in me front pocket, let alone a water bottle. Platty in the rucksack, stop to have a snack, it's far more relaxing and whilst you're relaxing over a Alpen bar snap of a few shots of your surroundings. Not a Batman utility belt in sight.

Apart from the small pockets built in to some hip-belts, I've always found that any belt-pack gets in the way of my walking action, especially when stepping upwards.

This OMM Chest Pouch gives a bit of carrying capacity on your front, is pretty stable, and will attach to most rucksacks.

"Batman utility belt" - lol, always thought of it as a techno-sporran.

Well, now that Sporran Makers need to have a special licence to produce sporrans due to the favoured animals being scarce, Techno Sporran could be the way to save an industry.
Now please could you tell me, what does LOL mean?

Is it me or is all this stuff similar to Army 'Webbing' which can be bought cheaply at any surplus store?

LOL, Ha ha!

LOL = Laugh Out Loud.

Looked at army surplus webbing, it didn't fit the bill. It seemed you would need to purchase a whole system of webbing for things to fit on to or connect to. Quite heavy and probably all in all not that cheap.
