Centre pole for my pyramid shelter

Need some ideas on sourcing a new one

I have a former version of a MLD Supermid. I normally use my walking poles strapped together as the centre pole, this works well when I'm using it for wild camping but its a pain if its used for a couple of nights on a campsite as I've got to put it down in the morning and then put it up again in the evening. I therefore want a replacement pole for it, requirements as follows:

- Adjustable for height. Think height is about 175cm but adjustment in that range will make it more useful

- Weight not a huge issue, will be used for base camps so taken in the car or on the motorbike

- Needs to be strong. Bought some really cheap tarp poles (down to £3 from £20) from blacks and there were pathetically wobbly, largely due to the weak joints between them. There's a lot of tension on the centre pole

- Need to collapse down in multiple small sections. Ideally around under 60cm so I can fit it in my North Face medium duffel. Also so I can take it on my motorbike without taking wing mirrors out!

- Ideally without a spike at the top (unlike most tarp poles) but I can always put something on top (like a piece of wood with a half a tennis ball on)

- Cheap, or perhaps good value. I know there are adjustable carbon fibre jobs you can get from the US. They won't get used hugely often, but it will make life much easier. Something from a UK supplier will make life easier too

Any ideas?

MSR has a collapsible tarppole in 3 sections. The top section is adjustable in small steps with a locking mechanism so it cannot collaps. By cutting sections in wished size you get a sturdy pole and reassonably light weight. They have two base sizes 8 ft and 5 ft. You must start with the 8ft version wich is about 35 cm too long in shortests mode. So you need to loose that in the sections by cutting one or more a bit shorter.

This is also a nice option. These tubes can nest in each other but are not telescopical and not afdustable...

Thanks Zuma

Just found the MSR job here - http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/msr_adjustable_tent_pole_8_ft.html

I like the look of those ESVO ones, price is good too. Shame they're not adjustable.

Actually, I've just found this now - http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/golite_adjustable_tent_pole_2_sizes.html

The go-lite long pole is on the mark for your quest for a pole. Good find!
