can any one suggest something lightweight and cheap, not to fussed on the breath ability of them as this has never been an issue with trousers for me, they will basically be stuck in the bag most of the time as when the weather is actually forecast to rain i have a pair of paramo cascada trousers but they are a bit to warm for the middle of summer so im looking for something light and cheap that by all accounts hopefully wont be used much.

Any suggestions before i just buy a cheap pair of trousers on offer from gooutdoors or the like?

In many TK Maxx shops at  the moment they have Trekmates Wind and Waterproof trousers at £15.  I've had some for a couple of years.  Very compact and light, with decent features, i.e enough of an ankle zip to get on and off over shoes.  Not the most breathable of garments but for summer backpacking when, as you say, they spend most of the time in the pack, ideal.

I recently bought a pair of Regatta overtrousers with full-length side zips for £12.50 reduced from £32.

From their website, http://www.regatta.com/buy/active-packaway-trousers-237451

DON'T get the Mountain warehouse cheap ones - the coating falls off very quickly.

Well done, I like them for the full length zips, they're very easy to use.

The Berghuas Deluge are a pretty good pair. RRP £50, I found them for £30 in Field and trek. Worth paying a little bit more than £20 plastic bag style.

I put a similar post out a while a go and got a pretty much unanimous vote for the Berghaus deluge. I now have them, paid £40 which I think is about the average price. The good thing about them is that they have full length zips but also "poppers" so you can leave the zips undone but still have a leg - does that make sense- this means it doesn't matter that its not goretex as you can effectively make them really breathable.

...i've got the Berghaus paclites. I dont rate paclite for breathability but it doesnt matter at all these wp pants for the same reason. The full length zips mean breathability is not an issue.

Another vote for the Deluges - a really great product.

Not sure if I've the Deluge ones, but the zips are two way, so you can unzip part of leg for 'venting' and still closed by poppers.

Excelent idea and pretty breathable anyway, Aquafoil coating.
