Cleaning a rancid camelbak

My 4/5 yr old Camelbak is minging. The tube is no longer blue, it is darkish brown/black with what appear to be terra-forming organisms. I've scraped it out several times but I'm fighting a losing battle. It's been sterilised in Milton many times but once the little lifeforms start colonising the tube I think it's game over, or is it?
Any ideas how I can clean it before I retire it?

Replacing the tube is so expensive I might as well just buy another complete bladder.

I'd sack it personally, it sounds too much like hard work if the usual remedies aren't working

You can get DIY tubing on ebay (& B&Q by the meter - might fit) - for not a lot of money

Why are replacement tubes so expensive. Im sure there some excuses from the manufacturers.

The bladder of my pack just started to leak from the welding.3 years old and never been abused.

As a last resort use.diluted bleach just rinse VERY WELL Stronger than Milton and if it works you've saved yourself over £20 if it doesn't. Then its only time wasted

They usually come with the mouthpiece - but you don't need to spend that sort of money if you just need the tube.  Food grade tubing is cheap.

Any beer / wine making shop will sell you a length of food grade tube. I got some when I modified my MSR Miniworks.

Once left one of mine in the van for weeks and it started to come to life.

What i do to clean the tube is tie half a cotton wool ball in the middle of a longh length of twine, then feed the twine through the tube, (i use a length of curtain wire to pull it through) secure both ends to something then "walk" the tube backwards and forward to clean the whole length.

I'll also soak it in milton again after just to be safe.

This is how i i've always cleaned mine and i'm still here.

I would also use unscented bleatch. After all the active ingreadient there is used to purify your tap water.

Yes just rinse well afterwards.

I have a deuter bladder, this from their site: "A simple but efficient way of killing any bacteria that have entered the system is to, place the empty hydration bladder in the freezer. Once frozen, thaw it out and rinse thoroughly".

I have mine in the freezer right now.

On the camelback front, I have a podium chill bottle. Any tips for cleaning a dirty nozzle? Ooh er missus!

For future reference only ever use water in it and always keep it in the dark ie in its cover.

I bought mine in 2002 and did carry beer once but washed it out that day. Apart from that it has never been washed or even emptied unless drunk. Whilst I cannot scientifically say that nothing lives there, I have never had any side effects or noticed any taste except plastic..

Mine lives in the freezer, it's never been washed in maybe 7 years?
