According to the New Scientist, there now seems to be some evidence that compression garments might help with various forms of exercise and can reduce post-exercise fatigue.

Here's details of one study, here's another, and here's another.

Anyone got any direct experience?

i use the socks for running and it makes a huge difference, you have to try it for yourself, your legs stay warm, and they just dont feel tired even after 10miles.
not sure on how tight they are supposed to be though, the socks are pretty firm but the legging from 365skinz are snug, but not as near tight as the socks?

Not had any experience but my mate, who runs 3 or 4 times a week swears by his.

Not got confidence in them. Suppose dont know til you try. On his behalf its a yes!

and MacDonalds are bad for you

We are, but McDonald's are worse.

I use under armour top and legging and have to say they are fantastic keeps you warm when cold and cool when warm. also after a good 20 mile walk legs are not left tired since i started using the leggings
22/01/2012 at 18:30
Is that because of the magic properties of the leggings or is that a comparative observation of those and other leggings or was it very simply that your legs were warm. I favour the warm legs theory...

I have 2XU arms due to bad circulation in my right arm - they have a very definite effect for me. Less lactic acid when climbing and keep the blood flowing better, it's quite discernible. They also keep you a fair bit cooler.
I just purchased some Skins for my legs but will need to use them fair bit more before I can pass comment but at the moment I'm fairly happy with them.
There is a huge difference between the 2XU gear and say something like Under Armour. The UA is just tight clothing that spreads the sweat, 2XU really does feel like it's doing what it says on the label. Only my observations but a few mates have tried/have 2XU compression gear and have found the same.

I have bad circulation due to this injury - so any small improvement is noticed when exercising or during a hard day at work. Tried lots of things due to a kindly hand therapy unit at the local hospital inc neoprene. 2XU came up trumps.

As usual Parky, you got the wrong end of the stick. Warm legs ? Right, that's why all those athletes, footballers and sportsmen wear down pants
22/01/2012 at 20:34
there evidence saying they make no difference and some saying it helps, hey no harm in trying we are all kit monsters here after all.
22/01/2012 at 21:12
I'm not disputing whether they work or not, merely saying that using compression garments isn't exactly cutting edge news.
22/01/2012 at 22:11
Do you have any first hand experience to contribute Rod? I'm aware that using them isn't news. But good studies of their benefits might be, at least to me. And while their value in sports such as powerflifting is incontrovertible - power lifters have different competitions for those wearing compression suits and those not - the benefits in aerobic sports are trickier to show, since the restriction to movement might counteract the positive contribution. So, what's your experience?

I like the cycling type shorts for the snuggly feeling on my thighs,
However, I dislike the sweaty chafing the shorts cause by squashing my arse cheeks together. Does that help?

Not the wrong end of the stick rod. How can you grasp potential snake oil. I' not sure how you managed the huge leap from tights to down trousers.

Is that like footballers wearing plasters across their noses to improve breathing when they breath through their mouth anyway.

People will try these things and find them wonderful because they are told they are. Never underestimate the guliibility of the general public.
22/01/2012 at 23:31
What do you make of the research I linked to Parky? Obviously you can't do a double blind trial on some tights, but can "gullibility" account for all the results in the three papers? Theres virtually no question that power lifters benefit from compression garments - there are different competitions for those wearing them, such is the advantage they give.
