Help needed in finding me a pack

I have been looking for a daypack fro a while now and am coming to the conclusion that no one makes what I am looking for! Maybe I am being to picky, but I just know what I want!

I am looking for a 25-30 litre (maybe at a push would go to 35) pack with the following features:

Air mesh back
Side compression straps
Wand pockets
Lid closure rather than zip (but could compromise here)
Long back length
Front pouch pocket for stuffing kit in (Such as that on the Gregory Z55)
Hydration system compatible (most seem to be now)

Can anyone make some suggestions please?

Thanks,
CC

Osprey Talon 33

the omm 32l has virtually none of the features you want and is a great bag.

I don't think the Talon has the air mesh back system does it? I would really like there to be a gap between me and the pack. It will be used in the summer so this is a key feature I am looking for.

Thanks Parky!

It does have a air mesh back but not with a big gap like some, BUT i did sell it and went back to using the OMM 32

look at gregory packs - z35 or z25 for example. they tend to have a gap. with none of that nasty hot mesh getting in the way. my mate has the z35 and the angel the z25. both excellent packs.

how much of mesh is actually no mesh? is there more air space on a back with proper air circulation channels in it?

the omm 32 is a great summer day pack. i will be using mine tomorrow. nice and light. the back isn't as sweaty as it may look (replacing the back foam with a bit of ridgerest ensured that even more). tough little bugger too - way more robust than it looks. comfy carry.

have i mentioned the omm 32? how about the omm 25 instead?

I think the Osprey Stratos 26 ticks most of the boxes, apart from maybe the lack of a front stash pouch. Other than that you might struggle to get all the features you're after in a small capacity sack, which often tend to be pretty simple to save weight.

Berghaus Freeflow ticks some of the boxes and should not be too expensive.

Loose the 'air mesh' and get a MacPac

I haven't got one, but how about something from GoLite - perhaps the VO2. Plenty of nice practical day walking features - bottle/map pockets, mesh back, adjustable, belt pockets, compression/stowage straps, back pocket.

My own favourite is a Macpac Amp Race 25, but you'll probably reject it on the grounds of weight. It carries superbly and works extremely well. Not easy to get though. An OMM whatever would be a worthy runner up.

I love my Osprey Atmos 35 but the long back version I have is nearer to 40L. On the plus side this makes it usable for multi day trips if you are a frugal packer.

Thanks guys. I will check out both the Golite and Macpac offerings, but really don't want to loose the 'air mesh', I hate that sweaty back feeling!

I did find the Lowe Alpine airzone centro 27 which seems to tick many of the boxes, anyone used one of these?

The Gregory Z30 seems to fit all my needs apart from the opening but I could live with that. But I can't find anyone selling it in the UK. Anyone seen this for sale anywhere?

the OMM 32, 25 and 20 litre packs are class

The OMM does seem to have a good following, but I really want a sack with an air-mesh system. I hate that sweaty back feeling!

fair enough, I could never get on with them as they always carried and felt awkward on my back so I stick to the OMM packs as they mould to my shape not the other way around

Evans Cycles have the fantastic Osprey React 28L backpacks on half price sale at £22 at the moment. They really are excellent, I have one, and it's great as a day pack.

It doesn't have a lid opening, but it has great pockets including the front pouch like my Gregory Z55.

Another pack worth looking at is the Karrimor Airspace 35+5.  I think it ticks most of your boxes.  For futher details check out the revamped Karrimor website.

Have a look at the Mammut Creon Element 25L. Don't think they're easy to find but Beyond Extreme may have them.

been using a Berghaus Freeflow 45L for the past 2 years. good value and plenty of storage.
