I noticed in the trail review that GT states they come with anti-balling plates but mine didn't!

Does anybody no whether this is a GT cock-up or a Snow & Rock cock-up?

Cheers

They don't come with anti-balling plates in Snow + Rock. Perhaps Graham got it wrong, Not like him eh Si(C)?

Ring DMM. Find their number off their website - www.dmm.wales.com, probably.

But gaffer tape gets shredded on mixed routes...

being a bit of a style freak i couldnt possible bring myself to stick gaffa tape onto th lurvely epoxy powder coated finish on my crampies!

Yeah but if you use them *properly* then the powder coating will be worn off in a season - but aren't they stove enamelled?

Well neway - one could always follow the style freaks and cut up a section of a washing up liquid bottle and lam that underneath, attached by gaffer tape of course. Pity that LDPE bottles don't come in purple....

I brought a pair of DMM gladiators from Nevis Sport up in aviemore after my crampon misshap. According to the DMM advertising these should come complete with AB plates found this out after I had forked out extra £25 for them! Not sure if this is an advertising mistake or the gear shops ripping us off some more?

contact DMM, if they should come with AB plates, then the shop should supply them!

Just checked the website and it doesnt mention anthing about AB plates for any crampons except for terminators let alone that you get them free with certain crampons. Saw an advertisement in the latest climber magazine where it states that the gladiators come complete with AB plates (this was after I had just brought them both seperately). Seems like false advertising as the AB plates came in a seperate bag with instructions etc so are obviously sold seperately which would be strange if they came with the crampons except for replacements.

You've been ripped off, methinks. Again, ring DMM and see what they say

Just got a reply from DMM which has cleared things up (but I'm £15 worse off!). The crampons being sold at the moment are probably last years stock which don't come with AB plates this years new stock do come as standard with a slight price difference.
The new gladiator crampons cost £100 last years model is £90 plus AB plates £25!
So yes basically been had!
B'stards!!!!!
I have just sent DMM a nice e-mail!

Just got a reply from DMM apologising but basically the answer was tough s**t!
Ripped off?
Yes indeed!
Ben if you paid less than £100 than they are last years model and you will have to fork out the extra if you want the AB plates.

Or if you haven't used them take them back and get a refund.

I know it might not seem worth it, but get in touch with Nevis-sport, quote the issue of the magazine where you saw the ad', send them a photo copy if necessary, and mention that you've spoken to Trading Standards, (if necessary), it's not your fault that the shop had some old stock when the offer was started???

you might be suprised at the result!!
08/01/2003 at 22:41
good idea...i'll give it a bash...cheers dave
