I have purchased 2 coats over the lat year, both of which I highly recommend. WOuld like to buy the same, but womans cut/versions for my lady, but am having no luck

1. Montane extreme- we found this, but the new version seems to be very plasticy and tougher not so soft outer material- do they do the womans one any different?

2. Rab batura guide- absolutely love this jacket! But is there a ladies version?

Any help appreciated

Many thanks

sorry, that should be baltoro guide

have looked at the alpine version, but was hoping they had a more robust type out

Do you mean the resolute thing from Montane? There is definely an Extreme with standard plastic outer - here. There has been a recent minor change to the look/feel of 'classic' pertex. No idea why but not just Montane. Also see Buffalo I guess.

RAB (from their website) don't seem to do a baltoro guide for Women. Haglofs reptile Q maybe half way similar warmth? Less though.

It might actually be worthwhile looking at Parmao here. They've got a full range of womens stuff. Not that cheap, but high loft powershield often isn't either!

(there is a winter weight womens fit powershield pro jacket from Pattagonia but its 350 or so rrp!).

joe, this is a perennial problem, and I posted up a thread about the new Montane Superfly XT just yesterday - like the old Superfly XT, not available in women's fit, only the standard Superfly.

The majority of outdoor gear manufacturers appear to produce fewer options in women's fit than men's, and the optimistically labelled 'unisex' fit usually means 'basically men's, but maybe a tad less tight at certain points, but probably not at the hips where it really matters'. Haglofs, as Jon has pointed out to me, is virtually the only manufacturer that don't discriminate.

Why do Paramo make an Aspira Jacket and Smock for men, but only a Smock for women? And why are their women's colours usually so utterly awful?!!

Montane do an Extreme Jacket for women and an Extreme Smock for men; I'm not aware of any difference in the feel of the outer.

Thanks for the replys, helpful as always!

In terms of the montane extreme- I have 2x older type ones, they are a soft outer, whereas the womans one we tried on recently had more of a waterproof feel to it

Not sure if this is any help, Joe, I have a woman's jacket about 3 years old, which has a soft outer, and a SARDA issued smock (men's), which is about 1 year old, and has a harsher outer. It may be that they all now have this harsher feel to them.

that sounds about right, what do you mean by sarda kate?

SARDA = Search and Rescue Dog Association - I lie out on the hills pretending to be a casualty so the dogs can train. We issue our 'Bodies' with green Montane Extreme smocks so we're warm and hard to spot

They are just the standard ones that Montane manufactures though, nothing special.

Virtually certain (from sundry gloves/mittens etc) that the change in feel/look of classic pertex is universal. Its really noticeable isn't it? Much shinier and it doesn't even feel the same.

Quite why or how a mystery but think you have to assume that the important properties have been mantained. Could always ask Montane, or even I guess Pertex, for clarification if worried.
