It depends on how hot you run but one recent combo I tried was 200g merino wool underwear under Paramo Fuera Jacket and trousers. Worn down to 4C and very comfy it was too. I'd suggest it could be worn down to about 1C ok and then it'd start to feel cold.

Top was Woolpower and longjohns were Lundhags. Although I did get a bit sweaty and a little clammy for a while generally I was extremely comfy. Not so sure about using it on real hills as the workrate goes up then and so does the amount of sweating.

"Not so sure about using it on real hills as the workrate goes up then and so does the amount of sweating."

That's my experience with wool base layers and Paramo --  the wool retains a bit too much moisture to be entirely comfortable when you work hard. Synthetic base layers like Lifa are better imo.

Merino is over rated, over priced and over here (IMHO)

The sheep seem to like it too!

I'm a delicate little flower so Merino is too itchy for me. Powerdry all the way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Fuera just a heavy windshell sorta thing?

Indeed Which sort of makes it not very novel, if also well proven....

While Paramo do make the Fuera it's not enormously different from all sorts of other windshirts*.  Ther waterproofs, OTOH, are very different and it's there that the "but it's too hot!" problems rear their ugly heads.

Pete.

* except, of course, that you can't use others as shapeless sacks quite so readily.

Yes, which is why I wore a Blacks ALS Merino top, under an ACG windjacket in Scotland a couple of weeks ago.  But then it was unseasonably warm.  When it cooled down later in the week, I put a VR Trail on top instead of the ACG.

Unless there's a whole lotta wind @ 4C I rarely worry about my legs getting cold.  If there's rain, that's a different story but even then with paramo stuff I get pretty warm.  At 4C I usually wear a Capilene3 (long sleeve) beneath a Parmao Velez Adventure Smock and usually stay pretty comfortable.  But to each their own as they say.

The power of the wind shirt!

Don't have a Fuera Jacket but do have the Fuera Ascent---love it---so versatile when used with layers
