Get yer wallets out

OK. They are only £25 in the shop in Ambleside that was Rock and Run (if that makes any sense). Lakes Runner or somesuch now I think. Ultimate Outdoors were also selling them off very cheap too. I looked at them found them very heavy and bulky when packed and realised that I would not really use them. Even though they cost more and don't have ventilation zips I would rate Rab VR trousers much higher - light and packable.

I've never been a huge fan of fleece-lined trousers for walking.  They're great for mooching about in, but for walking something close-cut for thermal efficiency and stretchy for full freedom of movement works better for me.  For winter use, Schoeller Dryskin or for even colder conditions Powershield are my faves.  Of course, the problem with either is after you've got your wallets out for a pair they tend to be quite empty

Indeed you've got the old 1.0 version on that link -  the 2.0 version (!) is here http://www.montane.co.uk/productdetails.php?productid=158&rid=10. Probably the first time I've seen someone put  version numbers on an outdoors garment!

Big difference seems to be using Epic as the face fabric instead of whatever the standard ones use. Should be handy in winter that.

A lined version of the terra stretches - made in stretch equilibirum - might be rather interesting. Maybe they're warm enough unlined though.

Why would you want to take the buggers off over your boots? In winter this could lead to death through indecent exposure.  

Venting I suppose - I've certainly had my buffalo special 6 trousers zipped at least half open before now. Ok there's is a limit to how much you can do and still walk in them!

(they're even madder this way actually - a velcro strip at the top to attach and full length side zips.).

The outer fabric on the xt 2.0 is also now different to the thermics - it's that near waterproof epic cotton stuff rather than the standard terra fabric.

Fourty pounds is seriously good value but surely they can't keep selling the 2008 version at clearance prices?! If only they got near fitting me....

Has anyone even seen one in a shop yet?

Maybe they've got to sell them cheap to compete with the quickfires in clearance sales
