I really want some of those Marmot winter glove/mit hybrids myself. I tried some last winter and they were just fab. A big thick fleece inner glove with a renforced goretex shell. Mmmmmmm, still, as they are going to be pointless this winter I shall leave the purchase until the summer if I see any in the sales (if they were available this year?)

Dunno about gloves, except my old LA Mountain Gloves were too hot and sweaty and started to smell reeeaaaal bad, and my newish Sticky Thicky aren't warm enough cos they're not proper fleece.

No, what really worries me is that I can't see the glove article on the homepage, despite hitting Refresh a few times. Eh?

Hmm, odd. It's in features. Search for 'Glove Love'

So Mr Gear, any specific recommendations?

In my experience, gloves/mitts are by far the least satisfactory part of my winter kit. They're either not warm enough or not dextrous and grippy enough. And it costs a fortune to find this out each time. Patagonia Stretch Triolet seem so far to be the best of a rough bunch, but they're not that warm, so I end up having periodic digit defrosting sessions in my big mitts.

Do any of the manufacturers actually make a warm glove that you can work in? Or motorbike-style heated gloves? I wouldn't even mind carting a 6 volt battery around if it kept my hands warm.

It appeared last night, along with the facelift story. Not sure how the cache in IE6 works, but I reckon it had something to do with it.

On gloves, I've never found the quite perfect set up, though my current Sticky Thickies/Tuff Bags (special order, them were) is qute good. Probably should have gone for Sticky Windies. (Extremeties have top names!). Should that I'm a walker.

I also find it too expensive to try different gloves, when many pairs cost a cool ÂŁ40

I asked Richard and he likes the Mountain Hardwear Exposure glove, partly because you can use it with a variety of inners. If you're looking for a warmer than average windproof fleece glove, their Windshear is good and the grippy stuff they use works reasonably well. Haven't come across a heated glove, though I don't doubt someone makes them. Alison Hargreaves used to use heated boots, so I guess the technology may have been applied to gloves as well. And of course there's that new TNF heated jacket, the MET5 I think.

Howevercheck this, yeah, not very technical I know, or, erm this or this or this. Actually that last one looks almost promising...

If anyone has the answer to hot aches, I will love them for ever. I've cried from the pain before now.

If you shrug your shoulders rapidly for a minute or so when your hands start to get cold, it boosts the circulation a bit and can stave off hot aches. Not much help if you're halfway up something with an ex in each hand though.

Or even an axe.

Hmmm... Is there a Dr Freud in the house.

Curse these useless typing mitts ot hell!

I'd like to know the answer to this one. Michele has Raynaud's and it's a bugger even in summer (we have to wiz pass the cold cabinets in Tesco's). Thank goodness the beer aisle's not chilled.

Mitts are useless for typing. As a guide, take your keyboard with you when buying gloves and ensure that the tip of hte glove is no wider than the keys on yout keyboard. Your problems with ex's well be over.

The cold cabinets in Glossop are a savage environment Mike, I often test fleeces simply by browsing through selection of cheeses or checking the additive in Muller Rice and its many variants. I think they have a policy of waiting for me to enter the store then turning all the thermostats to super low to get me out - it all dates back to the Urban Spliff incident.

If anyone knows the physiology behind hot aches, I'd be very interested. Really.

Just to display my ignorance, what is Raynaud's? I'm guesing it has somethingto do with intolerance to cold things / places.

Very warm blah blah blah - shrink in the wash and not very flexible....

The most irritating itchy mitts 'Ive ever owned... Others will no doubt correct me.
