GoLite Pinnacle & pole attachment

Are there any Pinnacle users who could explain how the pole loops are supposed to work?

A pal has just bought one and he says the poles hang too loosely in the usual manner. That is, put the tip of the pole into the bottom loop and give it a couple of twists, then feed the handle through the top shockcord loop. Well we can't work out how the top should cinch up, there's a weird clip attached nearby but it looks to be more of a retainer than something adjustable. Any ideas?

The bottom loops are massive too but he's not too bothered about those, I know they're supposed to be used to compress a half empty pack but are they for poles too? Should the poles just be slotted into the mesh pockets?

I should get some close up pics but hopefully these will help ..

We managed to squeeze a cord lock onto the shockcord loops but it's a tight fit once you put a knot in the end. Is there a knack to using the loops?

Put mine in the pockets when not in use, never bothered with those loops...

I've just seen this over on BPL, so the loops goes round the pole rather than the handle inside? That makes sense

I sometimes double the cord round a pole, single round an axe.  If preferred, adjust the knot that keeps the cord in, inside.

Fiddly things with gloves on!
