Can't imagine they have owt I want.   Bedders made a similar post re REI - far more useful - if you need something they sell.  I've had a fair bit of gear from them.   Handy info if you're heading over there for a holiday or on business or if you have a post-buddy in the USA who can buy & send it over.

The best sales they have is when the stores are clearing out stuff that's been returned for whatever reason - not online but worth a look if it's on when you're passing.

My daughter is down in London town at the moment. Can you believe that Harrods don't sell Wasabi Chocolate? She had to go all the way to Wandsworth/Houndsworth (something like that) to get me a couple of bars.

Working-class snobbery

REI are great - last time I was in the US I used my points... which added up to a £90 saving; most enjoyable. Almost as nice as Moontrail's points system.

Harrod's don't sell Vimto bon-bons neither...

I'll stick with my Mars bars - I'm not googling wasabi.

Er, I think you might have missed the point of Mike's post ...

Sigh

I think you'll find I didn't - although I'm not sure exactly what his point is.

Oddly, 16 years ago I did get a very nice pair of Timberland walking boots in a Harrods sale, about this time of year too. They were probably the last pair of non-membrane, fabric boots I bought and I liked that they were cooler than membrane boots, but could be paired with Goretex socks in the wet. I covered hundreds of miles in them.

So, much as I dislike Harrods for all it's bling-ness, there can, sometimes, be bargains to be had.

Wouldn't fancy carrying one of their tents though.

Tsk. Harvey nicks next door to harrods sells wasabi chocolate. Bloddy colonials getting lost and not knowingbthese things.
In view of the dire and disgraceful state of public transport i'm amazed that the hoi polloi non-chauffeured can get there.
16/05/2012 at 19:21

Hoi polloi, not 'the hoi polloi'. 'hoi' is Greek for 'the', so 'the hoi polloi' is tautological.

Isn't the polloi bit meaning people? Sure I got taught it meant the ppl or the population when roughly translated into English. Summat abt it meaning the masses as opposed to the elite. Or was it the other way round. There was another Greek phrase that's in English usage I believe that meant the opposite in Greek to what modern English meaning is. Wish I cld remember it. Doesn't say much abt the teaching of Greek in my school does it?! Shld remember more. Think I only remember the words for the oxen or the.cows. Not much use that.
So what's Bedderz doing for the colonies? Apart from raising the IQ a bit that is.

 Wasabi Chocolate?

That sort of chocolate choice would fit well with a Ferrari image

Chili chocolate is tasty- now going to have to find myself some of this stuff then

Yes. Polloi means 'many', hence hoi polloi - 'the many' means 'the masses', inference 'them, not us, the elite few', 'the oiks' etc.
