HH lifa winter alternative + rant. :)

So, i've 3 Lifa long sleeve tops that i love to wear under my montane extreme, but the extreme is covered with velcro, and any contact between the velcro and the Lifa leaves them looking like Steptoe cast offs, and contact is unavoidable, unless you live in them 24/7.

Fair do's, the Lifa's do exactly what i want them to do, very close fitting and wick great, keep me just warm enough without going bare skinned under the extreme, look decent in the pub when you take the extreme off for an after walk pint, but durability is shit, really shit.

So, any suggestions for an alternative that give...

Close fitting.

No thermal properties, or very little.

Good wicking.

Under £30.

Durable.

Cheers in advance.

Velcro destroys everything except chainmail or kevlar. Both outside your budget though.

I now have visions of Kate trying to get velcro, hook and loop patches off a wild buffalo. Some kind of new extreme sport!!! A bit like the Cretans who used to jump bulls or the African tribe that still does it.

I have LIFA tops and the open weave ones from about the early 2000s onwards are particularly susceptible to velcro carnage. In my case it's the closure of my crux ak30 that eats LIFA for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I'm going to suprise no-one by mentioning that subzero factor 1 survives a lot better and fits your checklist perfectly! If you buy a sub-standard on clearance you won't even care so much when it finally succumbs to the scratchy menace that allegedly caused the Apollo 13 fiasco...

Ah, they look just the ticket John.

Cheers.

Velcro shreds any sort of breathable base layer. The tighter weave of Rab's Aeon (I think) baselayer is a bit more resistant.

Wear your Extreme next to your skin! It's far better at pulling sweat off your skin than any Helly.

Yeah but then you get a breeze up your back, unless you tighten the side velcro so tight you have to walk like a penguin.

Not till recently have they been called by NAN name.

Aw, Nick, I just did a Google image search for 'buffalo', and that was my favourite. I'm an ancient historian, not a zoologist!

Oh... I think ancient is a bit of an exaggeration
