Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend a good in line water filter system that if possible I can tie in with my existing MSR Dromedary Hydration system or would I need to a full set.

Cheers,

Stephen

Or you could get the new lightweight MSR system that is designed to go with the MSR Dromedary.

"Or you could get the new lightweight MSR system that is designed to go with the MSR Dromedary."

No virus filter, no chemical filter, three times the price and half the lifespan.

Aquaguard Eliminator is THE in-line water filter.

I've recently got the in-line filter from Aquaguard after using a Travel Tap bottle from them for several months. It's a huge improvement, was dead easy to fit, Giles at Aquaguard was extremely helpful and responded to my couple of emails within minutes. Haven't quite worked out how to get water out quickly and easily when it's for cooking rather than just drinking it, but otherwise it's just brilliant.

Kate, there's no real need to filter water used in cooking as the heat involved will make the water safe, assuming it wasn't safe in the first place.

Kate - you could try the patent pending pressure-assist feed....the rocks are a bit of a pain to carry around tho...

Steve, can't be bothered to boil it for long enough! ed - that's exactly what I need!! And I notice you've removed the end part of the drinking tube as well...

I can license it to you for a thoosand £ Kate ...

I don't carry water much anymore cos the in-line is so easy to use at stops; so I now have a selection of shortened connectors - very rarely take the actual drinking mechanism....

In the mode illustrated, does the whole contraption end with the exit-end of the filter itself, or is there a short piece of tubing attached to the quick-release widget?

(hope you understand what I'm getting at!)

Kate, here's how I have mine set up if you've got the time.

I un-clip the bite valve side of the feed tube to decant water into a pot/mug etc. I use 'Dry-Break' fittings but it'll work the same with the supplied fittings.

It's without doubt the best product I've bought this year and as you mention you couldn't deal with a better bloke than Giles.

This looks pretty much like the system ed's using, only with his rocks! I think the error I made was trying to force it through the bite valve too - I'll remove that at the quick-release widget and see how it works.

I'll agree with you about 'best product I've bought this year'.

The only limit on to how you set-up the filter is your imagination, extremely versatile and the price? well if it was stamped with a 'Brand Name' it would cost at least twice as much.

Forcing it through the bite valve would really develop your grasp

Kate, by the time it's reached a rolling boil, all the nasties are dead.  No need to boil for a long time.

Hi folks,

Thanks all for the replies, will check all your suggestions out and let ye know how I get on.

 Hi Kate,

I was using the aquaguard for a while but managed to break the filter when I dropped it, great bit of kit though at a nice price.

Stephen

Hi folks,

I have been in contact with Giles from Aquagear about the Eliminator, I say that will be the way to go for me.

Hi folks,

Was in contact with Giles from Aquagear and he sent me this email and it sounds good to me.

Cheers,

"I just ran one for 3.5 days Still going with treated tapwater - Tasted
brillo at 3600 litres -  Dosed a hydration reservoir with x2 steritabs+
UNDRINKABLE taste

Hooked up to the Aquaguard Elinminator   Tasted like Tapwater ie taken the
pungent chlorine out

You may get much less use   Clear water IS the Key to long filter life"

Could anyone recommend how best to set up the valves for this please? I'll be attaching it midway to a Source Convertube and using it with a combination of PET bottles and a Source  Liquitaner and will use it inline and to decant when necessary (using the various methods). Basically:

  • Is it better to have the valved rather than the Plain Q/D connectors?
  • Does anywhere sell this with the Q/D connectors or should i get them separately?
  • Will i be able to set the connectors so i can remove the inline filter and reconnect the convertube without a filter? (i'm thinking i often start a trip with fresh water and may end up going the whole trip never using contaminated water, seem daft to filter it)
  • Is it worth getting a valved Q/D for the bladder end to disconnect the water holder without leakage?
  • Is Aquagear and BPL the only distributors?

etc etc...

Cheers
