Lightweight Smart(ish)Travel Trousers?

I am looking for some good lightweight smart (ish) travel trousers.

Rohan would be suitable but for one thing - I have a 32 inch leg length but they do a 31 inch leg length. Wearing trousers that are too short just does not look very good. This might be just about OK on the hill but not in a pub etc

I am finding it impossible to find anything suitable in a 32 inch leg length - Does anyone have any ideas?

Rohan do short, regular and long length trousers. Get a pair in the long length in their summer sale and if they're a bit too long you could always get a local sewing/alterations place to take them a up a bit. It would still work out a good deal for you given some of the offers Rohan have on.

Well Rohan do a 33inch leg  - you could try these and if too long take them up. I've done this with a few pairs of trousers and use 'wonderweb' to take them up - no sewing skills required- -fold up trouser leg, put a strip of wonderweb in the fold and apply a hot iron through a wet cloth ot teatowel.

I have some Rohan Fusion trousers which I like a lot. They are light and would seem to meet your needs - may be worth considering.

Edit - have crossed with Guy's post - must have been typing when he posted..

Nice idea but I also have a 30 inch waist and they do not seem to do a long leg length in this waist size.  Years ago my 30 waist /32 leg measurements were 'standard' and it was easy to find something but now it is a nightmare finding anything that fits!

It has got to be trousers really - my legs are not fit to be seen in public let alone in nice venues!

John, re Rohan sizes - last year I was looking at a few different pairs of their trousers and was a little frustrated as in my waist size (32) they did not have a  small leg length in all trousers - some they did and some they didn't. There did not seem to be any logical consistency in the leg lenghts available throughout the range

May be worth checking the web site for individual trousers to see what sizes are available.

Alex - lol never bought anything in my life I thought to be middle class - sometimes I think people think Rohan ara a bit 'stuffy' though. Does not bother me at all - I do usually go the opposite way to the crowd though.

I like a lot of their stuff - well made clotheing which refuses to wear out and trousers like the Fusion's are versitile  - I have worn them when out walking, in pubs and work.

I recently bought a pair of berghaus Santis trousers which are polycotton though  they don't feel like polycotton, and look slightly less bad than the last time I saw Rohan bags.  Not as many pockets, but that is why I think they look better.  The knee is slightly articulated.

Try Marks & Spencer. I bought some lightweight trousers there last year, not sure of the lengths but worth a look.

I swear by my Montane Terra Alpines. They're close fitting and uber smart (as long as you don't mind zips). I've had lots of positive comments from people.  Also, my Rohan Cross Borders (black) have lasted over 8 years and are still going strong - a true workhorse pair of strides, and quite long in the leg.

Try Rohan Bags. Available in a 30' waist and an unfinished leg length - 35'

Dry Requisites also come in a 30' waist and long leg - 33'

31 vs 32 certainly isn't a priori fatal, because there's a fair bit of an error margin in that sort of quoted figure. Especially with the stretch fabrics on some of their trousers. So could well be worth trying if convenient.

Or just use a belt on a waist size 32 trouser.

Most of the sale Rohan trousers have gone.

...and Bags (apart from convertibles) weren't in the sale anyhow.

Still worth a look though. I've gone into meetings with government ministers wearing Bags and a jacket, it depends on context.

I bought a pair of lightweight trousers in M & S [weight 300 gms]called easy pull on trousers .Short zip at the ankles, rear zipped pocket and two side pockets. No fly zip ,elasticated waist though.Various waist and leg lengths  .£19.50

Thanks for all the posts!

I decided to go for some Berghaus poly cotton trousers as (a) they had a 30-32 size! and (b) they had a brown colour option rather than the standard Khaki or grey walking norm. I am not sure how smart they will be but I live in hope.

I would have gone for some M&S ones if they only did a 32 inch leg length. Also, I wish Rab did some casual (looking) trousers.

I don't get hung up on leg lengths - a narrower leg needs a shorter inside leg, wider needs longer, so it varies anyway.  I think Craghoppers trousers are great value and tend to go for the ones that are a little too long - the new stretch ones are really comfortable, though not sure if they do them for men?  Hope the Berghaus ones fit the bill .

Well - total change of plan as the Berghaus trousers I bought are out of stock!

Now switched to some Rab Heuco as they were a good price and my size.  If they are not that smart at least I can wear them for walking!
