Has anyone had any experience of using the Lowe Alpine Atlas Jacket for 3 Season use? My local shop has reduced the price from £100 to £85 and i am considering purchasing.

I haven't used the Atlas, though it looks like a sound basic trekking / walking jacket - one day someone will explain to me what the difference is, other than the odd penchant of the manufacturers to produce all 'travel' and trekking clothing in shades of beige.

The one thing I would be aware of is that the Atlas uses 'Triplepoint' rather than the top-end Triplepoint Ceramic. My experience of the former is that it's not quite as breathable as the more expensive version and can get sweaty under duress, but to be fair, work hard and evern the most breathable, breathables on the market won't keep up.

If it fits you decently and you're happy that there are enough pockets / the hood's a good fit / you like the style etc, it looks like a good buy at the price.

Jon,Thanks for your reply.I was also considering purchasing the Lowe Alpine foraker jacket but reports suggest that although good for 4 Season use, it is a little on the heavy side. Have any members had any experience of using the Foraker?

I've never used a Foraker, but it seems a bit OTT for three-season UK use and you're right, at over 1000g, it's quite heavy.

I have the new Foraker jacket from Lowe ALpine. I love it - but you are right it is a bit heavy for summer, great for autumn and in the winter - well I don't know yet but with the zip in fleece feature it should be great (made me very hot trying in various fleeces at home).
I would have no hesitation recommending this jacket to anyone who is serious about walking. The hood is really good BUT it is only stored with a velcro flap. Hope that is of use to you.

oh and I only paid £162 for it instead of the RRP of £180 or John Lewis' price of £199

Ian,Thanks for your comments re Foraker jacket. Please could you tell me where you purchased your jacket from? Was it from Gaynor Sports in Ambleside as I know they sell cheaper gear ?

I've recently purchased the Atlas jacket, and I would say that it'll B good for light walking, in warm conditions, or reasonable walking in cold conditions. Triplepoint isn't the best, but I think that it will perform well in Autumn. That's actually probably the best time for using it. Or early Spring.
