hi all.

anyone out there have a macpac microlight?.

is it poss for someone over 6ft to sit up/lay down in em ok?.

im 6'2 and could'nt do that in my akto, so it went.

been looking for a rough weather replacement ever since!.

currently using a golite shangri-la 1, which i like.

its long enough, and tall enough, but the midge net inner is too cool for anything below freezing.

any advice welcome!!.

cheers.

No - I had one for a year but couldn't live with the small size (and other design niggles). You could get a custom inner knocked up for your SL1 for less than the price of a new tent.

im 6'3 and fit in an atko with no problem ! plenty long enough . as for head room just undo the front 2 inner clips that attach it to the roof apex and you gain another 4inchs of head room,  come bed time re-attach and zip up.

I do wonder about the Akto. I've seen plenty pitched over the years, and not one has looked the same - different heights and/or widths across the pole, end walls sloping in at differing angles, often flappy loose fabric.

A month back, Cairngorm Mountain Sports in Inverness had one pitched on their floor - pitched 'right', you could just tell. Out of interest, I got in for a nosy, and was pleasantly surprised how roomy it was (I'm 6'4"). It was certainly much less claustrophobic than the Macpac Microlight.

the centre string that gives the pole its shape has to a certain length (which i cant remember)to give max head height. i wouldn't be surprised if half the people who use one  get the length wrong and end up with a shallower curve.

of course mr wick compared to your sl3 it'll seem rather poky.......

I've got an akto but can't remember an adjustment for the centre string, or am I missing something? I can just sit up in mine, but I'm a short fella at 5' 10" compared to you.

My partner had a Microlite, he is 6'2", and although he really liked the tent he felt he was a tad on the large side for it. His was the light blue one, although I think I remember him saying that MacPac did a heavier/bigger one that was manufactured in a green/greyish colour. Can anybody verify that?

I love my Macpac Microlight.

At 6' 2" you'll fit, but there won't be much room to spare. It's a great width. I normally store my pack, boots etc beside me.

Height might be a problem. Depending on your torso length, I'd imagine your head will be pretty close to the top. Mine brushes the top about a 1/3 of the distance from from the apex (I'm 5' 10").

It's very compact, so geting in and out is always interesting. Fantastic porch size.

It's incredibly warm. A little green house.

Morton Moschild - I have the green/grey one. I don't know its difference in weight/size to the old one.

I read the pole cord on the Akto should be set at 165cm in Length, but at that length my door is loose and flappy.  At 175cm it seems perfect, which is the length mine was set at when I purchased it new.

yes monty, i was considering getting someone like ookworks to make me a fabric inner for my golite.

i really do get on with it.

im also toying with the idea of using two poles to run down either side of the shelter, as i dont always see the need to use trekking poles when im out walking.

my thinking is that without the upright poles out of the way, the space at the rear of the shelter could also be used, and a really long inner could be made to fit it.

im guessing it would swallow a big winter bag with ease with these mods, and would make a cracking winter shelter.

i do have quite a long torso, maybe thats why i never got on wi the akto?.
