metal matches

Anybody know where I can get hold of metal matches. The only places I can find stocking them on the web are in the US! - I could go over and get some but it might hike the price up a bit.

I know! - you are all thinking, 'somebodys been watching Ray' and yes is the answer - most of my Scouts! so as mentioned in an earlier thread it would be a shame to see the old skills die (I'll have to learn them first myself I guess, but hey! i'ts got to be more fun than matches when you are lighting fires just for the fun of it!)

Try the camping and outdoors shows. I got one of the Flint sticks from there. mine came from the camping and caravaning show in earls court but the one in the nec in a few weeks would be a good place to look. However, they ain't as easy to use as they look!

Graham, what exactley are you after? If you mean flint sticks as mentioned above, then go to any decent army surplus store and they should be able to get hold of them for you. Alternatively do a search of UK websites for survival equipment? Or try http://www.edirectory.co.uk/penrithsurvival/index.htm (sorry, don't know how to make it clickable, and to be truthful don't care!)

or buy the 'fire stick' thing direct from rays company. they're made in sweden from a secret alloy and work superbly, scraped with the back of a knife.
I've got one which I've used quite a lot and even at that rate it looks like it'll last for ever

go to www.raymears.com
theres details of all the courses you can go on.
It looks like the site is being re-jigged so you can't order kit on line but theres the phone no. Give them a ring, they're all nice people
