Pete - they are alright for the pub & Sundays at Roundhay park, shopping in town and all that. 'specially since the darker nights are coming in ...

He just gave you a £120 jacket? I want to be his mate!

There's a test of the Tempest in the reviews section on the main page of the site - search for 'Tempest' in the reviews box and you'll find it.

My personal opinion is that it's a great bit of kit. Slightly too warm for most summer use due to the lining, but good wicking and pretty water resistant. Works well for stull like mountain biking and fast moving thought the hood isn't as protective as a full mountain jacket's.

But anyway, since you have it, give it a go and let us know what you think of it. No, it's not 100 per-cent waterproof, but it's well up for classic UK drizzly conditions and you can also wear it as a mid-layer if you want. Anyway, try it and tell us.

Looks good as a summit top on a breezy but generally dry day.

Jon C has got one, and he likes it. Too hot for summer use (as mentioned above) but pretty good unless te rain really bad or lasts a long time.

I keep meaning to steal it for a bit to give it a go. Must get round to that....

I have to admit that I wouldn't buy this kind of garment unless it was discounted in a sale, nice colour blue / back the fit is very close, not quite my cup of tea, but costing me zero pounds I can't moan.

Ok, so I'm ickle. But it was worth a go.

My mum always said that good thigs come in small packages (she was only 5ft).

To which my dad always muttered, "Yeah, and poison only comes in small bottles"!

Can I just ask:

What would the advantage of NOT sealing the seams be?
03/10/2002 at 12:25
Si - remember:-

SIZE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERFORMANCE

Think about all those (tiny) sports cars...

Alex, cheaper and easier to produce, taping seams takes time and costs money so finished garment costs more.

I suppose that no seam sealing also saves (a little bit of) weight?

Not so as you'd notice I reckon. Probably some marketing / positioning stuff going down as well, but ultimately it works pretty well, so I'm not complaining.

Hey, Drew - Don't ask, don't get thats my motto.

Well, I don't really have a motto, at least not one I can type in a public forum anyways.

If I don't get on with the tempest I'll sell it. 40 chest is the size in blue and its still got the swing tags on at the moment.
03/10/2002 at 15:24
But...but...if it's not totally waterproof unless the seams are sealed, why should MHW (or any other company) bother NOT doing it.

Surely it's an inferior product because of that, and as such one that customers will realise and NOT buy, in favour of one that IS sealed.

Hence it would not sell and the company would make a loss as they have made items that won't be sold.

Or am I missing something here?

Yes, it works, if you don't believe me, I'll lend you one.
