I just found this special edition version of the Krypton on climber shop website.

It is avaiable in blue, black and there is a red version listed seprately for some reason...£55 so cheaper that chips...Hmmm could I justify 'yet another' jacket...

"Exclusive to the Climbers shop - the Montane Krypton Equilibrium Jacket isn't available anywhere else.  It combines Pertex Equilibrium fabric with a microgrid fleece liner to produce a stunning all year round 'soft shell'.

The Special Edition Krypton Equilibrium use the two layer 'original' soft shell concept seen on the regular Montane krypton and classic Rab Vapour Rise Jacket, however the combination of fabrics is unique"

Very strange. Maybe a test sample, or left over stock from the old version.

The 'new' price on the Climbers Shop website is listed as £85, yet the new version is £125.

I think it is a 'special'

I have a feeling the RRP of 125 is wrong on Montane website.IIRC it was 85 on Montane's website when looked a few months ago, and go outdoors agrees as well

At the risk of my better half's wrath...I have ordered one... Any loud screams heard this evening may be mine

The 'old' Krypton was £85 i think?

I'm tempted myself. It looks like a good 'kicking around' jacket. I'm worried about the 'snug around the upper arms' bit though.

Maybe it's a Dyno that they have added a micro fleece inner to?

Pics indicate it is a Krypton.

The sizing info is putting me off, especially the snug arms. They advise sizing up, but .......

I'll wait for your report on the sizing.

All colors are 55£...

I probably don't need that jacket, seriously...

I probably don't need that jacket, seriously...

I was having the same problem, but have luckily been saved by the arm pocket denting it's "but what is there not to like, even though I don't need one?" credentials.

I have the old Krypton smock and it's done (and still does) sterling service.  One thing I've never felt it lacked was an arm pocket.  This is a jacket (which I generally prefer),  a little lighter and it comes in red too, but why did they have to put an arm pocket on?  Pointless gimmicks of our time #215, but think of the money it saved me...

Pete.

The problem is the arm pocket isn't putting me off, I really don't need another jacket, but I'm sure that would get some use, as Mike said, it may be a good 'kicking around' jacket.

Dammit, now, what colour???

Montane were quick to reply as usual. No free Beanie this time...  doh!

"Thank you for taking the time to email and thank you for drawing my attention towards the Krypton Jacket pricing on our website.  As you thought, the correct price is indeed £85.00."

Just to clarify for everyone what the Krypton jacket is that we have on special offer :-

the Krypton Equilbrium Jacket is a special production run from Montane, that is available exclusively from the Climbers Shop.  It is not in the current Montane product range, but is essentially a Krypton Jacket made using Pertex Equilibrium fabric, rather than Pertex Microlight Ripstop, and in the case of the Black and Blue colours, has a lightweight microgrid fleece lining (The red shares the same lining as the regular Krypton - Dryactiv suede).

Pertex Equilibrium and Microgrid fleece obviously add a little weight to the regular Krypton design, with a medium size being about 250g heavier.  However, this still is by no means a heavy jacket and it does offer better warmth than the regular Krypton.  Pertex Equilibrium is also very hardwearing, superbly weather resistant and offers excellent temperature regulation and breathability.  It isn't used for Rab's mega popular Vapour Rise range for nothing!

You could think of this as Montane's answer to the Rab Vapour Rise jacket, but with a tad more insulation and a more technical hood design.

Feedback from customers has commented that the fit of these jackets is quite....shall we say 'athletic'.  They do come up a little bit snug particularly in the arms.  We have suggested that ordering a size up from your normal size is usually a good move.

We have a number of other exclusive Montane  kit, including Terra pants and Featherlite smocks https://www.climbers-shop.com/788/Montane_Special_Editions.aspx

If anyone has any queries about any of our Montane Special edition Kit then please contact me at info@climbers-shop.com or call 01539 430121

Just got mine and I'm very please with my purchase, I probably didn't NEED the jacket but it fills the gap between my collection of summer fleeces and tops and my winter kit.  Also will be ncie for evenings camping etc.  However, I have a slight dilema.  I ordered the Large (against the advice to order a size up) essentially because my other Montane jackets are large and although snug they do fit fine.  The jacket certainly is an 'athletic' fit but do I go for a bigger size or lose a bit more weight.  I have put on a bit over Christmas and feel that the exercise I'm doing will mean my belly will go down a fair bit.  The XL size would make it a nice lose comfy fitting jacket, great for going to the pub, but the snug fit of the large makes it ideal for when on the mountain.  Hmmmmmmm, i'm tempted to change for a size up but am not sure.

Lose weight for sure.

"Great for going to the pub" = "Great for getting fatter"!

04/04/2011 at 15:25
yes I think you are right
04/04/2011 at 15:45
Or just send it back. You don't need it. You've just bought a dilemma!

04/04/2011 at 15:50
No I haven't! You're wrong! It fits fine, no one else can see the bulging belly! Which, even though it can't be seen, will be gone soon!  I'm sticking with the Large!  Problem solved!

I have a simliar dilemma. I order the version with the grid lining... but the red one had the lighter lining so I got that sent as wel...just l so I could compare you understand

Well guess what the Large - my normal size for Montane- is a litle too tight in the grid lining version, while merely snug in the normal lining.... decisions descisions.

Result is I am tempted to keep normal lining one for warmer times AND get the grid lining version in XL for colder times

My better half is well not best pleased - understatment of the year- but I used the context of RAB tour lite RRP of £125.... she was not convinced but I was
