Possibly a question for the adventure racers out there, here goes:

if you had to pack footwear for several weeks trekking, scrambling, cycling and riding (all wet or dry weather), and you wanted to limit the weight, what would you go for? Is there any one type of footwear that would cover the lot? Or any two types?Anything I can think of that would be acceptable for the first three wouldn't release easily enough from stirrups to be safe. Any advance on my best idea so far, which is lightweight boots plus jodphur boots, and weighs about 3x more than I'd like?

I've got a pair of Meindl Magic Air thingy's, and forgot to take my boots to Snowdonia with me. I did Pen yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Llewelyn, and Carnedd Moel Siabod in 'em. There was some reasonable scrambling, which these coped with well, even though the soles aint sticky at all! I would recommend something like that, plus something with ankle support and waterproof, 'cos these aint.

Some lightweight boots, with Gore-tex lining. Maybe.

Sorry that was quite indefinative. Just that enkle support is nice for scrambling, but not always neccesary.

Not sure I'd want too much ankle support for scrambling, makes it harder climbing up slabs and general smearing. In fact I tend to leave the top lacing hooks on my boots undone.

It's the riding that's causing the problem. How about barefoot? Gor the last time I was on a horse I was been lead up and down the beach (Ok it wasn't quite a horse). How much heal do riding boot have?
