+ 120ml of fuel does for a 2 nighter   Initially I made a Caldera Clone Flissure (from Captain Paranoias printer script design) for my MSR Ti Kettle to take on the TGO Challenge. I had been using a Foil Cone Clone, but the packability was somewhat irritating i.e. It was too big to fit in the pan, and being foil needed a cover to protect it (I used a cut down juice bottle)   The Flissure cone is a 2 piece cone clone which can nest inside the cookpot.  I have been using a Red Bull chimney stove (8g)  and the cone height was originally built for that.
This year I've settled on using a Starlyte stove instead.  Although twice the weight() it has many practical advantages - such as non spill, and lightable out of the wind - e.g. sheltered inside my jacket before use.  Due to the Starlyte being shorter than the stove, I epoxied a 'base' (bottom of as drinks can - 3g)  to make it the correct height/flame gap as the cone/stove were designed for- flame gap distance is critical for efficiency  NB my recent cones are made from US style flashing which is springy and robust  - more so than the 'real' Caldera Cones(though a little 'heavier' and harder to work with than 'thick' foil as generally used)

The Starlyte has a wire stand - which I initially took off as unnecessary with a cone.   But, When after the TGO I treated myself to the Evernew Mug (400ml -50g or so - from  Bob n Rose) I replaced the wire stand and made the base so the stand was just below the base of the MSR pan when it hangs in the cone. The reason for this was that I found that the Mug  handles wouldrest exactly at the right level on the slot in the clone when sat on the Starlyte - result!  For the TGO I took a separate plastic mug - now I have another 'cooking' option.

Another advantage of the Flissure/Starlyte combo is that the lower section can be used as a windshield for a wider pan the the clone is designed to hold - e.g. I can just fit an AGG 3 cup pot  or the recently acquired pre-used Evernew 900ml Pan. (no photo yet)

Next Year maybe I'll buy some Ti Foil  for a MYOG Woodburning cone like a MYOG Caldera sidewinder Fuel Use with this stove/cone/MSR Kettle on the TGO - 13 days of use - 3 x 500ml - 750ml boils a day, I used 850ml of meths

Nice - I just seen the script with the thread being updated.  Must contact CP for the latest version.  I have an old offset printer plate on hand for such a project.

I'd like an option to use my old ti mug like you have as a 2nd pot for a small weight penalty.

Impressed with the 120ml of fuel for 2 nights.  I'm using 170-200ml

I don't mean to be rude, but.... what is it with you boys and your stoves?!!!

Let's not go there!   That's another thread altogether!

I know Kate they are really quite pathetic

104g for my setup and 50-60mls for 2 nights

Kate - you should be pleased to see men busy 'in the kitchen'

Rosswm - Cheers. That's a lot of fuel though- you probably 'cook properly rather than just boiling water/boil in bag as I do?  I'm not stinting myself - I have 3 'boils' of 600-750ml water -  a hot breakfast and tea/coffee, and pre-dinner hot drink/soup, dinner meal and tea/hot chocolate

well, if I only had 2 hot drinks/one hot  meal a day I'd only need 60ml too

Do you use the woodburning mode on the Ti Tri much in the UK Ed?
13/12/2011 at 17:55
Make that 1 hot meal and a hot drink (if there is combustible stuff around (which answers Q2)).

Reeeeally....for a day-or-two I would take a bit more alcohol - but for longer coffee relies on scavenging fuel.

Ooh! Nice one mole.

I'd like to go down the Ti cone woodburning route for next summer, but think I'll go for a bigger pan setup first - maybe the AGG 2 quart (more like 1.3l) pot that I have.

I guess the secong pan/mug in the flissure could have a light stand so any 'cone-suitable' stove could be used.

Nice set up Mole, i cant make my mind up whether i would prefer switching to a meths/burner set up ......not really sure when Gas gives a much longer (less hassle?...) fuel supply...for 160g's extra......i think i might be tempted in the new year though.

That's 4g less than my pan & lid on it's own!

AGG 850ml cosy 32g
AGG 850ml pan, lid 108g
Caldera Cone & Stove 74g
Folding Titanium Spoon 20.00
fuel syringe 6g
Optimus Pan Grip 18g
Cup - empty pot noodle 20g
Lighter 10g

Total  288g

On a weekend - At least 2 brews in the AM plus porridge, hot lunch of soup & super-noodles plus a brew, macaroni cheese + tuna mayo for dinner, bring to boil, simmer for a few mins & then in the cosy, custard & cake bars if it's winter plus at least 3 brews.  & I may leave the stove on a while for a bit of central heating.  Repeat brekky & lunch on day 2.

edit: for a better comparison to crux/gas above - 230ml alcohol & bottle 200g (I like some spare fuel) - all up weightt 488g.

Do you not have a windshield for the Crux?

Oh, come on, it's primal; me man, me make fire...

I confess that I just put the burner in the clone, and stick the head of a piezo lighter in it.  I've always lit my meths burners this way, and never burnt myself; meths starts off in a very lazy way so you have plenty of time to remove your hand before the flame gets hot enough to burn you.

Alright, Prometheus

I've been using a MyTiMug system recently, which is also a Flissure clone:

I don't always take the plastic cookpot, as it's relatively heavy, but it does make for very easy cosy cooking, and rather more civilised eating than freezer bags...

I'm using a Sainsbury's Creme Fraiche pot as a measure and cup at the moment; very light, with a lid, and acceptable to drink out of.  It has a nice transparent window in the side, with 50ml graduations, up to 300ml.  It fits inside the MytiMug.

Well, my liver did grow back after I ruptured it in a skiing accident.  No eagles involved, though.

Anyway, all that mythology is far too modern.  And it's poetry.  We're talking proper primal, caveman stuff, not mere purloining of combustion...

We'll be discussing the pros and cons of red deer vs reindeer hide for breathableclothing next, and whether Neolithic stone tools were a real improvement over Mesolithic microlith compound tools...

Treated with silicon for the tent or snowhole - without for the living room.

Kate - just a selection of probably 300+ stoves in the 'museum'

  Very true.  Some 'gems' though!

Want to know more about the 104g setup!
