Why incur the costs and hassle of a legal battle over a path closure for 12 hours on one day of the year?

Have these people got NOTHING to do?

Because they don't want a precedent to be set? If it's OK for Claudia to shut off the ROW for 12 hours, what's to stop other landowners from trying to do the same, for 12 hours/days/weeks/months? Too easy for a path to turn into a slippery slope.

No I quite agree with Stuart. If was twelve weeks then fine, fight it, but let's not get paranoid.

This is a difficult one...

I think that the ramblers ARE over-reacting just a little bit, but there is a danger of a precident being set.

As long as the powers that be close paths as required for the minimum time only, and for specific one-off events only then I don't have a problem with it.

And with reference to the first story - WHY??? whats the problem are they frightened someone might see them!!!!!!

Problem is the path goes straight up Claudia's new drive and round the side of her house...one suspects it may get closed/blocked off/disappear from public records...if she'd stayed with David Copperfield he could've just magicked it away.

So from the report saying that she wants it closed for 12hs I assume she is quite happy for people to use it the other 364.5 days a year. Hmmmmmmm! I detect a large fence and guard dogs on the horizon!

Oh, I don't know. Judging from those car ads, she doesn't seem particularly shy.

I can see why people are worried about the principle, but equally, 12 hours isn't the end of the world. It's just a way of saying look, 'don't push your luck council people'. On the surface, it does look like a storm in a tea-cup, I think you have to look at the bigger picture though.
