Zojirushi flasks - expensive and not easy to get hold of, but the Rolls Royce of flasks.

Tescos - around £3.50. Does me.

Any of the Thermos light and compact range. Does what it says on the tin.

The 500ml jobbie can be had for about 12 squid and they are bullet proof. The Gucci looking blue one scratches easy though.

Thermos Ultra from Tesco Direct. Not cheap at around £20. However, will keep water hot enough that you can't dip your finger in it for 24hrs. Available in 0.6l and 1.0l sizes.

i had a thermos one from tesco a few years back, it had the glossy silver inner. that started to peel into my soup one day

I have a small lifeventure one that is brilliant, comes in a range of fancy colour too.  About £10 I think.  Or if I remember rightly, outdoorkit were doing an offer of a free one when you spent so much on other stuff.  An excuse to buy more gear in my eyes.

We have various, the one I use most is a Lifeventure TIV.  Weight and bulk are good for actual flask volume, it works, not too dear, available in several sizes to suit, errrr, that's it.  If I lost this one I'd probably get another.

Pete.

+ 1 for the Zorijushi and +1 for the Thermos Ultimate Series. Zorijushi is slightly heavier but they are both good for 24 hours.

I've had a few brands b4. Avoid cheap Tesco ones they have all lasted 4 hours warmth over 3 trips then failed. On one occasion I found out by burning my hand while filling it. Not gd when the outside reaches the inside temp in seconds!!!
Thermos ones are best if you get the newer models IMHO. The literature TIV ones are gd but cool by lunch in winter ONE.
Thermos ones that say keep warm for 12 hours last that long or longer. Never needed to waste double the money on the RR brand that is Zoji. It doesn't need to work any better than 12 he's of thermos imho.

Heres one some of you may not have heard of; Kelcan. I have two and really rate them. Lightweight, basically indestructible, (i have abused mine) keeps drinks hot for at least 18 hours i would say.

Only downside is the lid doesnt double as a cup, which for most isnt a real issue anyway.

I just take a stove now and make a fresh hot cuppa whenever I want one .Much nicer than out of a flask

For those with the thermos ultimate ones what are they like for durability. Had aladdin ones for ages but they are quite heavy in comparison so looking for something lighter but still fairly tough. Ta

I got my Zojirushi in TK Maxx, just to confuse things...

Don't you just hate 'auto spell correction'...

Owen - do you take milk for your brew too? I wonder about that. I mean a milky spill on a hot summers day and keeping it fresh too. I take milk with tea and coffee but if I take a brew kit it means those nasty 3in1 sachets as I don't really like to take milk since I don't have anything really safe to carry it in. Those starbucks via sachets and the millican / carte noire "real instant" packs are good coffees but dried milk doesn't cut it. PLus tea must have milk IMHO. A nice Ceylon or Booths Kenyan for a bit of strength is nice with fresh milk.

I've been using a 0.5l Thermos Thermax Ultimate for a couple of years now and have found it the best flask I've ever had. Neat and light for the volume it holds, and it keeps drinks hot for much longer than the Lifeventure, Primus, Tatonka and various other flasks I've had over the years. Liquid put in at 7am will still be almost too hot to drink at 5pm, even if I've had several cups from it during the day. It seems pretty tough to me, although I've not dropped it over any cliffs as yet.

Hadn't spotted that. Posted from my Galaxy S2 phone. It has annoying spell correction since I updated the OS on it. Mind you, wasn't much better before the update.

In case anyone wonders I meant Lifesystem TIV. Those nice black ones which claim 12/24 hours insulation and come with a push button and a second screw only cap.

zojirushi and elia are two brands i can recommend.

i've found flasks to be much pot luck.

cheap ones are cheap for a reason.

expensive ones are more likely to guarantee they'll work to expectation - more or less if they don't self destruct.

"light" flasks are light probably because they won't keep anything hot. a lifeventure one i had was light and kept stuff hot for a good two hours. the zoji is heavier and keeps stuff hot for at least 17 hours (gave up measuring the temp after that) and realistically when using the contents throughout the day a good 8 hours plus.

since acquiring mine i haven't looked back and was money very well spent. the linked thread below is now 5 years old! is it really that long i've had my flasks!

Tp I use Carnation condensed milk in a tube  if it's very hot weather but the rest of the time just put fresh milk in a small plastic bottle .[Wine bottles from flights away are handy for this and safe]

I've had mine going on a year now and used it in a number of situations, not just when walking. It has been dropped several times with no apparent damage - it comes with a rubber foot and a silicon band ner the top which acts as a bumper and a grip when you have gloves on. I replaced the silicon bumper with a wristband supporting a local regiment and saved 4g
