Neo air sizing ? large or extra large.

I'm thinking of getting a Neo air. My question is do I go for the regular or the extra large size. Normaly I always manage with a regular mat due to not wating extra bulk and weight but always find my arms fall of the side. With the Neo air being so thick that might be more of a problem. Although I don't need the extra length, I might benefit from the extra width. How many  6ft people with a 42  inch chest use a regular mat and find it ok.  Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks

I'm just over 6ft tall and with a 44in chest and find sleeping on the short NeoAir very comfortable. Has to be admitted I do sleep on my side, so the arms falling off the edge isn't much of a problem.

I'm an everything sleeper, although side is the main way.

I'm 6'3, I use a large Neoair (which is the longest one). Very comfy and wide enough for tossing and turning.

I've never really understood how people use the short mat and find it comfortable, you're legs must drop a couple of inches

You would think so, but tbh I've never found this a problem at all. There have been occasions I've put clothing and/or a foam mat under my legs, but that was for insulation, not to level the sleeping surface out. I simply don't notice the "drop-off effect" for more than a minute or so after getting into my sleeping bag.

I should probably try it as it would save a fair bit of weight, but I do love the comfort of the big neoair, and I don't want to waste money on a short mat I don't like.

Maybe if a cheap used one comes up I'll give it a go. I've used a torsolite and found that OK, but that it a lot shallower

Ben,I'm, 42" chest but a bit of a short arse at 5 7" so have plumped for the womens neoair, as its a bit warmer and lighter. I'd like to find one a bit wider though, as my arms"drop off the sides" when lying on my back. Got it yesterday and I'm trying it out tonight, think it'll be sleeping on the side is the order of the day....hm night!

Thanks all, still deciding but am swaying towards the regular 180 x 50cm simply because the whole idea of me getting a neo air is to lighten up my pack as well as improved comfort.

I have seen a neo air wide torso in the green trekker model, hard to come by but have seen these on sale at 63cm wide and 120 long is a good compromise, however as they are the treker model it uses the green heavier material and has a less a insulating rating than the yellow model or the newer ones for that matter.

The one I am thinking of getting is the Xtherm. Expensive I know but I could use that all year round at 460g ..

Up until recently I used a large neoair as I tried a medium which was fine, but I move around a lot in my sleep and found I bounced off now & again so the large stopped this happening. It packs down the same size as my new medium mat too

I tried the woman's version out last night and it was fine; really comfortable. I've seen a nice little contraption that you can use with a neoair to turn it into a chair, which saves me carting round a stool of some sort, Very impressed with the neoair all round. I've been using a multimat airbed and it works well but the neoair's lighter and packs up really small. Although I think Multimat have brought one out that's lighter still but don't think it's as warm as the neoair.

Jim, don't bother with the new light multimat, my girlfriend hated hers before taking it back

Alan, too late!  I can only speak as I find though and it seems fine so far. right length, light, rolls up small; and I can use it as a chair as well! If they made one about 3 inches wider, it'd be perfect...maybe!
