OMM Cypher Smock

Anyone got one - Opinions?

 Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting an OMM Cypher Smock.

But, I'd like to know if anyone has opinions on one, based on their experience of wearing one? I'm thinking of a Large.

One problem I have is getting touchy-feely with one, and as I'm 6'2" I'm reluctant to buy without some idea of what I'm getting - sizewise. I'm medium build.

So, here's my direct questions:

Is the body of reasonable length? Are the sleeves long - given the thumb loops? Is the sizing narrow, or, reasonably ok fitting for wearing a 100 weight fleece underneath?Does the e-Vent material feel durable.

I was waiting for a Montane Spektr, but having seem photos of it, I think it looks very short. An obvious way of saving weight, but, not as practical?

Bump.

Anyone bought one yet? Thoughts on sizing and your own (manly) chest measurements would be most welcome. I've a 46" chest, tyrannosaur arms and would also appreciate being able to get a 100 weight fleece on underneath. With nowhere nearby (Cambridge) to try out fit any insight would be a massive help.

Cheers!

44" chest and 34" from centre of neck to my wrist and an XL fits nicely.

Wool layers (thicker than 100 fleece) fit underneath and sleeves are long enough for the thumb loops to work.

Apart from the horrible yellowness, it's fine (to be fair, mine's yellow for using on the bike!).

Are you sure you mean Tyrannosaur arms? They were really terribly short you know

tis true, they couldn't even put food in their own mouth with them.

Is this jacket the same cut as the Kamleika?  That had Orangutan  like arms.

Went for a PHD Alpamayo instead.

The Large is only 435 grms - it's what I would call a full on smock* - and there is plenty of room under it for layers or down jacket. This weather has stopped me getting it wet, but, I've no doubt that it will perform well in the moggies and doggies stuff in Scotland!

* good length; good hood, good zips; storm flap

I went for black; the yellow was a bit too much for my eyes.

The website at least has it in black. Not that broadly monotone yellow is near the scariest colour scheme you can manage nowadays!

I was all geared up to get one, and was ambushed by a rab demand on ebay instead. I'm all in favour of clothing which comes in colour schemes other than generic black and eyeball buggering whatever.

Realise this is an old thread but after my experiences I thought I ought to post...

In short, I've had two of these since August 2011 and both have failed/de-laminated, which might be an indication of poor build quality or (very likely) a bad batch.

Bought a yellow one in August 2011 - on back of Best in Test in Trail etc. and was initially very impressed with the lightness, apparent toughness and definite waterproofness/breathability on the hill (although the fit does leave a bit to be desired if you have a remotely athletic/V-shaped chest and normal-length, humanoid arms...). With very few wears in August/Spetember, I took it for a week's Munro-bagging (3/4 walks with 2/3 wears from memory) in October and suffice to say it went black/transparent around key stress areas and de-laminated. Took back to shop. Got replacement... (~Oct 2011)

Replacement has lasted till now, which is better than the first but has de-laminated in more places/more badly...

As I say, it's a very light and has been very waterproof/breathable till now but two failures like this is pretty bad. Still, could've been a bad batch, so I'm at a loss as to what to do/replace...

Same thing happened to mine. Have been offered a credit note but to be honest am thinking I want something else in the light of peoples' experiences.
