Park And Ride For Snowdonia?

The motivation for the scheme seems to be not so much to improve transport facilities as to encourage visitors to spend more money by making them stop at the "Gateway Towns". However if they make it more difficult for climbers to get the hills we'll simply go elsewhere and won't spend any money in Snowdonia.

And what will happen to the gear shops, cafes and pubs in places like Capel Curig if we can't park there (or are charged for it? I for one won't be getting off the bus just to browse the gear shops.

So which are the 'gateway towns' then? I'd heard there was a lot of disquiet about the motivation behind the scheme - viz, it's a pure money-making operation dressed up in ecological clothes as a PR exercise.

From discussions I've seen/heard elsewhere, it appears that the majority of locals that have expressed an interest are opposed to the scheme in its detail (but I guess agree that traffic can be a problem in nw). The feeling is that the leaders are after some kind of big-time green finding for prestege.

I get the impression that Llanberis and Betws would be gateway towns (and perhaps parking restricted even along the oggy valley laybys/verges). The money-making plan also seems to try 'encouraging' people to spend more money locally, i.e. 'honey-pot'. e.g. (more rumour from elsewhere) the parking charges would be high, but semi-refundable in local shops.
