A SHOCKING price...

shock!

I've looked for other UK retailers but have so far drawn a blank.

You could drop ULO a line and see what they have to say. At that price, seems like you may as well import (and the sterling is nice and strong against the dollar right now...)

or the next time you are in the States why not take a day off from climbing/camping/hiking and go shopping.

Bedderz,

You could get one sent to me in Michigan and 'I could stick it in the post.

Why does it say its made of stainless steel?

No mistake:  I spotted that Soto windscreen price whilst looking for one several weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure there are no other UK retailers.  In fact there aren't that many in the US, and all those that have it charge ludicrous amounts for postage.

Someone must have bought one from ULOG though, as they are now out of stock!

ULOG prices are usually pretty good, but that's just taking the P.

Steve, thanks a million for the offer its extremely decent of you. I was going to ring ULOG tomorrow to check up on the price until I read Llywelyn's post... yikes! Anyway my parents are going to see my sister in the States where I normally have any American purchases sent. They'll be able to bring it back with them along with a few other bits and bobs

REI has stock... going through the buying process shows that with air shipping (the only option) it would cost $31 plus any/all UK/US taxes.

Guy in fairness to ULOG I doubt its totally down to them. The stove is £75 here yet $70 in US which even if you decide to pay the sales tax means that your paying a substantial additional mark-up here.

Anyway I've had occasion to have an email conversation with Soto and it wasn't too hard to get the very real impression that they've massively over stretched themselves with the distribution of their stoves.

Mystery over.... my climbing buddy gave ULO a call who seemed to confirm that the £35 was correct as its "an expensive item" but they were very surprised that REI were doing it for $10. Only had a quick conversation with him but he said that they said they'd been a fair amount of interest in the windscreen hence they'd sold out. The interesting thing to me in that is that even at £75 quid the stoves still a seller.

Anyway he called the UK importer who said although they didn't have the price to hand or any stock till late Feb early March from memory it was £13.

I'll wait.... only thing is I'm going to need to improvise a windscreen. Any ideas anyone?

Backpackinglight sells heavy duty foil that is excellent for making windshields.  Much thicker than cooking foil but can be cut with scissors or a Stanley knife.

I replaced the windshield supplied with my MSR Windpro with one made from this foil and it was a better fit and lighter.

Soto wind-shield now available in the UK for £11.70 (postage free) at Trekkit.

I can recommend Trekkit too.  More often than not delivery is next day.

Just checked and the RRP for this item is £12.99

Oddly or not as the case me be ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk are now showing a price of £13.99 but no stock.

Not a huge fan of mail order but will definitely keep an eye on Trekkit for those times when I have no choice.
