My Mum who worked in the fashion business [or the Ragtrade as she puts it], was horrified to put it mildly at the cost of some of my gear, no names but well known softshell, waterproofs andwindproofs.
As she has the ability to take patterns from existing garments; and more importantly the ability to 'grade' them up or down to fit other sizes she has decided to make some gear and via some research has found this site in Canada..

www.justmakeit.com

who will supply authentic Powershield, Powerdry, Goretex, Pertex and the like at what appear to be very good prices.
Has anyone else any recommendations for other suppliers? It seems to be much harder to find places in the UK.

For the UK, all we have is:

There's also a place in (I think) Finland, that has some fabrics the UK ones don't. The guy who runs it is very helpful (and speaks English!):

Bear in mind that the fabrics can be very tough, and blunt needles quickly. Fleece type fabrics are best sewn with a ballpoint needle. The same for microfibre (pertex, polyester MF etc.) fabrics, assuming the machine is powerful enough. If not, a microtex needle is a good alternative. A walking foot is anywhere between useful and essential for the stretchy or shiny fabrics.
