Reversable Fleeces

Sixteen years ago I bought a 'Mountain Range' fleece which was Polarplus 200 on one side and Pertex on the other.
This jacket is reversable which makes it wonderfully versatile at ANY time of the year. In summer evenings when the temperature drops it's just the job pertex side in. When it's cool and windy you can wear it pertex side out which makes it extremely windproof and very waterproof.
I've spent long days out in rainy conditions with this jacket. If I wear it pertex side out I simply DO NOT get wet as my body heat prevents moisture ingress (nice word !!).
I've got a few other fleeces and shell garments but I still prefer this one.
I'm not a tight git it's just that I won't get rid of it until I can get hold of a jacket as good.
Unfortunately the company in question was bought out by North Cape and this garment was discontinued.
Does anyone know of a suitable replacement? Please don't mention Buffalo or similar as these are far too warm to wear except in very cold climes,
and are not at all versatile enough.
If a gear manufacturer reads this then firstly I apologise for rambling on and secondly, with the new forms of fleece/pertex this should be a sure fire money spinner.

I haven't seen this style recently. I've a feeling it's been replaced by the newer soft shells, which theoretically do the same job. Have you thought about buying a separate fleece and windproof (such as the Marmot DriClime) instead?

If you won't settle for anything less than a reversible, you can often pick up the old Patagonia ones secondhand on Ebay - search for 'vintage Patagonia'.

Beleive me, these soft shells are nowhere near as good as my old jacket, plus the versatility aspect makes what I want superior.
With the newer versions of pertex the opportunity lies to create some really good gear, not just lightweight shells.
Thanks for your reply though.

George

North Cape made these fleeces up until their takeover last year , But good news is they look set to re release it next year.

The other firm who still make them are Mardale, if you need any info give me a ring on 019467 26384 at work (the barn door shop) and I will go through the catalogues for you

hope that helps?

Thank's Guy, that's good news.
I've seen the jackets sold by Mardale,
the Valdez reversible is almost what I'm after but not enough pockets and the colours are dreary.
Though I would like to get a close look at the Alpine or Alaskan jackets, they look a bit tasty.
Mardale look like a decent company but their
list of stockists is small and those that I've been to don't have anything.
I won't buy a jacket without handling it personally and trying it on.
Nevertheless thaks for the info and I'll keep my eyes open.
Happy New Year.

George,
have you been on-www.extremeoutdoorclothing.com
Their pathfinder might be about right for you.

You could have a look at the paramo range. I'm sure theres a reversible fleece top in there someweher. The downside being that paramo tends to work best when you buy the rest of the range as well. Good marketing ploy!

George the other thing which is worth a try is giving MARDALE a call. As a small British firm that make their goods in the UK they may well be happy to sort you out a jacket in a colour and spec that you like,

As well as selling mardale, I have lots of their gear and can honestly say the the quality , finish and performance is superb.I have also found them to be very willing and happy to accomodate individual needs when asked.

Buy British that's what I say

HI George, try looking for www.parrot-online.com .Bought one of their reversible feeces about 10 years back and stil going strong. has pitzips and a useful handwarmer style through pocket as well as breast pocket. great bit of kit though these days might be considered somewhat lairy colourwise.

And a home grown company too though I'm not sure if they still make the stuff over here.

Sorry, me again. Just had a look at their site, more bike oriented than it used to be but look at the Conure jacket, (which is what I have )it used to be reversable.
