bought some salomon explorers, one of the rivets failed on the lace hook after a few days use, the guy in the shop told me it was rare for it to happen, but i've had to replace rivets before on salomons, anyone had similar problems with salomons versus other brands?

the explorer design on the hook near the ankle is a proprietary one where the shaft is part of the hook so you ahve to replace the entire hook to replace the rivet.... but the way its designed it seems to cop a lot of focrce on one side encouraging it it to fail , from what i can see.....

Never had to replace any, always had salomon boots.

I have had a couple of pairs of Salomon amphibian shoes which is my only experience of the brand. They have lasted exceptionally well surviving a lot of a abuse.

Still, every design can have its faults. The heel strap on the amphibian shoes always slips which can be annoying. Maybe the problem you have encountered is specific to the explorers.

Got Salomon Mission GTX - they leak more than Wigan's defence!

Now sporting Adidas terrex mids - much better!

I'm on my second pair of Fastpacker Mids, the first pair leaked after around 30 miles, the new ones seem to be holding up better though.
