walking another large section of the south west coast path this summer and
need new sandals.
Not sure whether to go for another pair of Merrells or try Teva, but either way need good grip for those slippery steep sections!
any thoughts?

I've got Teva Pretty Rugged, which I find really comfortable for generally knocking around in, but (despite the name) I don't think I'd want to wear them on a long walk that wasn't pretty flat. Mind you, I've never tried.

Have a look at the Nike ACG sandal, best pair of footwear I've ever had, including a couple of Merell & Teva sandals. Used mine a lot for hiking in mountains.

I have teva terri fi's or something like that, soles as sticky as a stick and comfortable too. most expensive ones in the shop but they last and the quality is good

Go for Teva's - expensive at around £65. Once you buy Teva's it seems no other sandle will do, it always has to be Teva. Bit of a cult following I think. Terri-fys are great but check out the awesome Wraptor II

got a pair of teva wraptors. good grip, and really comfy as hardly any grit seems to find its way into them.

Is it only me who manages to wear out the Velcro in Teva sandals in less than a year? And under water, Velcro tend to stop working, I lost a Merrell sandal when when crashing a canoe in white waters. :-(

Just you Jarl! only time velcro stopped working for me was on me MTB shoes when i lost a foot in a bog.

I'm going to be contrary and put in a word for Merrell Striders.

Comfort straight out of the box, sturdy construction, and they don't seem to attract those little stones that find their in and underneath your feet.

As someone has remarked in one of the gear reviews, though, there is the "unusual" Merrell odour to them. Also, try carefully before you buy. The sizing is a bit odd.

There is a review on exactly this topic in the current issue of TGO magazine!

I have a pair of teva terra fi's, and have done a few miles in them. I'd go for them. RRP £65 but you can get them cheaper, mine cost £29.99 from a local shop. www.snowandrock.co.uk had some on offer. Hope this is a help!
