Snow Peak dealers in New Zealand

I am in the very early stages of planning a two month trip in NZ and have been trying to find out whether they stock Snow Peak gas cannisters. I have the Giga Power ti stove and would like to take it with me. Does anybody have any experience of cooking with gas down under and can I substitute the Snow Peak canisters for another brand (safetly).

I don't know if Snow Peak canisters are available in New Zeland but the Giga Power stove is compatible with most of the self sealing gas available almost everywhere. I know for certain the MSR gas is available in NZ but I'm not sure how widely.

You're best bet is to contact a camping shop in the vicinity of the area you visit first and ask there.

There are several brands of gas available in New Zealand. The main one that I use is Kovea. This comes in two types, both are resealable. One looks like a fly spray can without the plastic atomiser bit, and the other is the short squat kind.
If you want cheap gas, (the fly spray type) this is available from The Warehouse for about $2.99 a can (approx 1 pound?).
Kovea and Doite brands are available from most good outdoor stores.

Thanks for the advice. Will look at the cannister I have and see if the others are the same size etc. So long as it fits and is resealable it should be ok and $2.99 sounds like a good deal to me.

Checked out The Warehouse today. Their gas is $2.99 each and weighs 220gm but only contains Butane. The Kovea gas canisters contain a mix of 70% butane and 30% propane and work better in colder conditions. I ordered a box of 28 of these today and can get them for $3.50 each although 28 will last 2-3 years. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions just sing out. :O)
