Not having much look with footwear at the mo.

Got a pair of Merrell Chameleon Stretches (the ones with the elastic laces) last week - now the left one's decided it's made out of mouse-hide and won't stop squeaking (I think it's the heel area that's making all the racket).

Anyone else had a noisy pair of Merrells, and if so, did you cure it (how?), put up with it, or just take the shoes back to the shop?!

I was always taugh that squeaking shoes was a sign you haven't paid for them yet....

Other than checking where the noise comes from by holding and flexing, I'd drop Merrell a line asking their view.

Marcus, Hah! Me too!! I've got a pair of Merrell approach shoes and the right one squeaks beautifully. I get great looks of pity when I put on an exagerated limp to match...........

oh dear, it looks like I have a choice between paying off my credit-card bill or doing battle with Merrell customer services...

Hobson's choice!

Steve - If I do manage to contact Merrell I'll mention your right squeak along with my left squeak!

Perhaps you should pair the shoes up and send the pair back to Merrell and ge tjust one new pair!

Then you could split the pair and both of you will have non-squeaky footware.

(My Merrell Reflex's have never squeaked btw...maybe I was just lucky!)

But what if we take different sizes?.....Or if we both take size 9 and only size 9's squeak?......

It's definitely the heel. I can prove it by walking around using only the heel of my right foot. I might try walking like this tomorrow.

my left heel squeaks as well on my approach shoes but i just put up with it as the shop i bought them from had closed down,

Ahhhhhhhh my left heel squeaks, but not when I am wearing my Merrells.

And I thought it was just me!!!

I've got a pair of Motivators that squeak, seems to be coming from the sole possibly from the Vibram logo letting air in although not sure. Decided I couldn't be bothered with the hassle so just put up with it, not the right attitude I know but .......

So that's four squeaky shoes so far! I wouldn't mind so much if they at least matched. Does anyone have an e-mail address for Merrell? There isn't one on their website...

I have squeaky Merrells too!!
They are chameleon slams. The left one squeaks and it can get quite annoying. If i walk like a cowboy it helps.

Ozz, do you find that you walk with a limp in time to the squeak? I was squeaking my way from carpark N6 to the show last Friday behind about 30 other people and after about 50 yards we were all walking in time to my Merrell squeak.

I think its to do with the air cushion unit in the heal. Its not as complex as the ones used in other manufacturers shoes, its simply got a foam seal over the top, which is in turn located under the midsole plate. So i reckon they leak, simple as that. Or it could be an air pocket trapped between the sole and midsole. My Merrell Chamelon XCR's sqeak, and a friend of mine had lady chameleons that sqeaked as well and a pair of boots (dont know the name) with the same problems. No such problems with my Denalis so far though and they're over a year old.
As for merrell - one year guarantee on products - working in millets i know that its the shop that decides if they're dodgy or not so if you bought them from any branch of the outdoorgroup be nice to the members of staff - it may help your cause!

I find that by placing my foot really badly (i.e. heel, ball and toe, at the same time rather than rolling), the squeeking stops. Quite annoying way to walk though!

Just bought a pair of Merrell approach shoes, hope mine dont start squeaking too!

Marcus, any luck with the Merrells? If you wish I can provide you with an adress for them.

I am still au-squeak, and judging by the number of comments on here, I'd love to take up the issue with Merrell, thanks very much.

OK I'll get their details from work.

I'm another squeak victim too - left shoe, Chameleon Slam. I was thinking of slitting the sole open and squirting some glue in there. I haven't done this yet as I think I'll probably knacker it but I'll eventually get so annoyed with the squeak that I'll do it.
