Evening all
Looking for a summer top for fishing in,As I spend 3/4 days at a time on the bank my criteria is basically a top, that will resist retaining the smell of sweat and a comfortable/loose fit, drab colours..

Richard, if you're looking for a baselayer, this month's Trail has baselayers and had a Smartwool top as the 'best for odours' (and I'm presuming they mean 'best' as in least smelly!) A bit pricey tho and may not be ideal as a baselayer and I guess you may want more warmth / something less tight fitting. Just a thought as I saw the article and you'd mentioned non smelly! I'm sure a softshell could do something equally well.

Well good quality merino (as smartwool and sundry others) is done by plenty of people, all very suitable for almost anything

Loose fit and sober colours can certainly be arranged with effort. The sage colour that chocolate fish do for instance would definetly do and size up a bit or something for a looser fit.

The one drawback is that none of it is cheap.

merino base, Rab VR midlayer, and a hard cape maybe the new Rohan one? Patagonia do very good fly-fishing wear, which I have been using since the eighties. Still being used. Depends where you're fishing. If in boggy northern country (such as my native donegal) think of a head-net against midges.

Totally agree with the Merino but I'd use something less figure hugging during the hotter parts of the day as I'd find it made me sweat.
