Vango Trail 35

Just getting my gear sorted for a bit of overnight wild camping on Dartmoor this year. There are 2 of us, me and my GF so we can share some of the weight. Been looking at getting a new pack, as I only have an OMM Classic 25 (quality bag) and a really cheap Vango Trail 35.

So that's 2 bags I need then? Nah, just the one. I thought for some reason the Vango one was really heavy, but on weighing it, it's 720g, yes SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY GRAMS!

That's 100g heavier than the OMM. So, that's it then. All her gear will fit in the Trail 35, as well has half a tent, so I just need to find a slightly bigger one for me, perhaps 45l. I'm sorely tempted to get the "his and hers" style Trail 45. It ain't pretty or made from exotic materials, but it's dirt cheap (less than £30), lightweight and I know it fits me.

Thought I'd share, as I was genuinely surprised. I thought the Vango would be 2kg+ and I never even thought about it when I bought it. It's either that or the OMM Villain for £90 more!! Don;t get me wrong, the OMM is lush, but do I really need it? BTW, the Trail 45 weighs 766g according to Vango...

Wow! 35 might suit me. I can cope with 20l ALPKIT but reckon the 35 wld suit better. What's the back length like?

Can't use most OMM sacks as too short backs. Is the vango 35 longer? Wld appreciate it if you.dm check for me.

Seems a bit of a bargain price!!!!!

Ok, I have to qualify this slightly (to be honest I was expecting a barrage of abuse!).

The Vango doesn't have much in the way of features - for instance you can't reach around for a water bottle like you can with the OMM, it doesn't have cunning pockets on the hip belt, there's no mesh on the front to stow stuff and it certainly doesn't look "cool" like the OMM does.

However, I can get all the stuff I need in it, it's hydration compatable and what's more, an Alpkit Base 180 mat actually fits in the hydration pocket.

The back length on the Trail 35 is 45cm, same as the OMM Classic 25, so really for people under about 5'7" I suppose. Perfect for my GF though.

I did try a 45 a while back and it fit me fine, so would assume it has a longer BL, since I'm 6'0. Will probably have to try it again, just to make sure.

That is a bargain price! I think I'm going to buy one anyway and send it back if it doesn't suit!

I bought a 45 litre Vango Trail pack from GapYearTravel earlier this year. It's nothing fancy, but it is very light and a good buy at that price.

And that's the thing. i think its do easy to get caught up in the hype about the lightest, most technically awesome stuff, when all you need is some basic stuff to keep you comfortable on a summer night on the moor. the most expensive bit of kit i own is the alpkit skyehigh 600. Love alpkit stuff!
