Re: Spent 8 days in Iceland around Thorsmork in a good and dry weather with lots of new gear and the only purchase that let me down was... Scarpa zg 10. They take water very quickly, the gore-tex lining never dried overnight, standard insole is almost unusable and... they started splitting on my third day..... The outsole has a very good grip, rubber rand protects well against rock scratches or loose gravel, but my metatarsal was aching having basically no protection at all from insole, big toe same thing (no, they're not too small). On my first day I jumped across a small stream and hardly touched the water with my left boot - couldn't believe water penetrated through almost straight away... An hour later got in some mud for basically 3 seconds - and my socks were like wet towel.... The boots took appr 11 hrs to dry up, no not ready for the next morning but midday rather. So I applied two layers of Nikwax, did some nice walks around glacier (never stepped on the glacier itself, so rock, gravel volcanic dust only), 12 hrs in the boots, temp around 6-10 Celsius, gore-tex lining wet like hell and three layer outsole started splitting in one of the boots.....I gotmyself new jacket, trousers, backpack, gaiters etc and supposed sth will not live up to the expectatations, but not Scarpa boots...
