When the Scarp 1 came out a lot of the comments from this forum members centered around the not down to the ground fly. Henry has redesigned the fly so that it now hugs the ground but also has two new bottom end vents, zippable, and a way to slide the side panels up for extra ventilation. The apex vents now have a Velcro strip to seal them up if needed.Martin Rye posted about this one yesterday herehttp://summitandvalley.blogspot.com/2009/10/scarp-1-news.htmlFranco

Yes, I know how you feel. I don't drive and have no interest in cars, so they all look pretty much the same to me.But I do find the retro versions like the new Mini, Beetle and the Fiat 500 very cute.Franco

I don't worry about avoiding temptation - as I grow older, it starts avoiding me

looks very tasty, though why it has to be poly tunnel grey is a mystery.

The improvements have turned it into a cracking tent for UK conditions.

are the free hanging bits there for wind tunnel testing. ?And to think that I am only a few hundred meters away from the local (Aussie) Boeing* factory, but they don't let me use their wind tunnel. Not fair is it ?Now , that is something you cannot do with the Estonian made tent, add poles and turn it into a freestanding shelter..(apparently it holds up better in the snow that way....)

BTW, you can remove those dangly bits.I call them nipples, but that may not be the correct term .

I've taken the fastenings for the cross-pole off my Scarp - 2 minute job, and they are easily put back on.

How much?

Are the cross over poles with it as standard or and extra option?

UK import only via US website or is there going to be a UK distributer such as BPL-UK or Winwoods Outdoors?

And just one more question, has anyone tall tried one? 6'5" or bigger? The internal length might be big enough but who likes to sleep with their feet and head touching the inner or with the inner tent flapping menacingly in strong wind above your head.

prices are on the website...

The poles are extra ($30 iirc)

Someone posted a link to a German site that sells the Scarp in Europe.....but I cannot find it....

The inner is not close to your face when sleeping if that is what worries you - cannot help on the length issue as I am at least two feet shorter than 6' 5"

I've never liked the Akto much as it's a one-sided design, something the Scarp isn't.  I'd buy the Scarp for its two-sidedness rather than the much vaunted extra-pole thing (not that it isn't neat, but having been using a Spacepacker for about 20 myears i know it's a bit of a moot point most of the time).  Much prefer the look of the new fly option.

(Though I have no real need of a one man tent, so a bit academic!)

Pete.

Being 6'4 I'm having some difficulty 'finding' a decent solo tent, have up to now always gone out with the wife (and recently child) so I am used to bigger tents.

I am however going to be going out more solo so I am wondering if anyone around my size can recommend a decent spaced lightweight 1 person tent for multiday hikes? The scarp I've had my eyes on for a while but not too sure as most reviewers/users I have read articles from never quite seem to be >6ft

Which makes ordering it from the states possibly an expensive exercise in finding out it's too small for me.

cheers in advance for any feedback!

I went single skin on account of space. Not as bad as people make out, you just have to learn how to live / use it to get the most out of it. Used it from February to October so I think it is one way for some to get the length.

To the tent? Threaded through sewn-on 'eyelets' - dead easy to take off, or put on.

TwiglegsYes I got the point, hence my ever so  slightly "cheeky " reply...For the tall ones some suggestionsFirst have a good look at the Tarptent site. (don't expect to see the new version there for a year or so...)http://www.tarptent.com/scarp1.htmlHenry has a link to a "cutaway dimension" pageThere you have all of the specs needed. The numbers are accurate. Now, get some masking tape and bits of string out and build your own mock up.Next put your mat and sleeping bag on top and see how you fit in it.All of the floor space is usable end to end as the minimum height is 15".From memory I did this for a guy that is 6'3", so that is the length occupied by the exped mat and the pillow.

The only frustration I have with the Scarp is that the vesitbule isnt big enough. Its a bit of squeeze. Though it is nice to have two, thats for sure. Still undecided whether I'll upgrade, I probably won't as I am getting into climbing now, where having a light tent is much less of an issue.

this is SO going to be my birthday present, roll on April!

I think the porches are huge - but then this is one of the few tents I have with one (or even two)....last time out two weeks ago all I had in the porches were my pot and stove.
22/12/2009 at 16:41

They're smaller individually than the Akto, quite substantially so.

Where was your bag? Thats what annoys me, the bag is a squeeze and often it falls over.

22/12/2009 at 16:46
The bag goes under my feet at the bottom of the tent - at this time of year shoes are in the bag so that they don't freeze.
