Tents

I seem to either be under or over tented at the moment. I have a Vango Banshee 200 which is lightweight and great for hiking with, but for anything else is a bit small, my next tent is a Vango Icarus 500 which for a weekend with the family is about right, but for just myself is too big, my Vango Amazon 600 is great for week long camps with the family.
What I am after is something between the Banshee and the Icarus in size.
Weight is not an issue.
I'd like to be easily able to sit up
2 or 3 man I think
I like the simplicity of a two pole set up but don't want more than 4
Needs to have a decent HH as it will be used in all weathers
A porch would be useful
Needs to be able to stand up to strong winds
so suggest away.

Vango beta 250. Relatively cheap and fits your requirements. Too heavy to carry but you don't need it for the. I've got the 350 and that's great (can almost stand in it). I've added 2 more guys to each side (just add cord to existing guy points so can get different angles) and have had it standing up to winds that other tents have bent in with no trouble.

I've been rather tempted by the Vango Ark 400 (http://www.blacks.co.uk/product/096742/VG-ARK-400-DS-YELLOW-0.html?attribute=15471989)

It's technically a 4 man, but I'd call it a 3 man. Two poles, 3000mm hydrostatic head, and it packs away into a not unreasonably sized bag.

Disadvantage compared to the Beta is that it's not got a porch. Not sure how well it copes with wind as well, yet to get to test that.

It's a lovely tent though, I put one up at work (I work in Peterborough Blacks) and it's been tempting me constantly.

I can't really justify it so far as I only ever really need a 1 or 2 man tent.

The vango omega 350 sounds like a good option for you.

I'll second the Omega, but the Vango Tempest 300 is another contender as it's just light enough to carry. I wasn't impressed with a Vango Beta I borrowed, but that was 4 years ago now. Perhaps later models are better.

The omega looks very much like a slightly improved beta (added tension band system) to take higher winds (but then at almost double the cost). I think my beta's 3 or 4 years old. Interesting how all recommendations are for vango tents for your requirements.

True it does look like the beta a lot.But the tension band system, lighter tent and better waterproofing on the omega is prob why you would pay more money.

I've had an Omega 350 for a few years got it for £99 (reduced price) It has alloy poles opposed to the fibreglass ones on the beta. I mainly use it on my own and there's loads of space in the porch and sleeping area. I'm able to get a camp chair in the porch and one of the doors has insect mesh so good for keeping the midge at bay!

slightly confused, fibreglass poles but tent bag is "disc that is 85cm in diameter". Worth investgating in the shop, looks good.

i'd probably buy one if i was looking for another tent, as long as it's not one of those pop-up ones

I've got the Decathlon Base Seconds with the optional bedroom inner and when I bought it it was £99 including the bedroom insert. I see it's now £159.99 plus the insert so that makes it a trifle expensive but it works well as a 'quick up' 1 or 2 person tent with 6 foot headroom and loads of space. I suppose now I'd go for the XXL IIII for £129.99 which has the nearest decent headroom (157cm) although the XXL II is only £79.99 with headroom of 138cm.

Nowt wrong with a good 'pop-up' (as the bishop said to the actress)

I use a Coleman Phad X3 which is big enough for me and 1 of my son,s and all our gear otherwise i use a Icarus 500. To be honest cannot fault either.
