Twiglegs - you can say the same thing about pretty much anything

If you have the money and want quality then that is the best option out there

Plus this is for a turbo flame style lighter, not a budget POS!

I can say that with confidence as someone who has had 14 lighters for £1 through to some nice jet flame lighters (plus the range in between including zippos)

I dunno, £35 to reliably light a meths stove just seems a little OTT to me, when i've always managed it with nothing more than a 10p lighter, or a firesteel, but then again i make my own burners, to a design i know will work, in any conditions.

In fairness I agree, a firesteel works very well

My stove set up is a pop can stove inside a bushbuddy, then inside an MSR Ti Kettle

I've never failed to get a fire going in my bushbuddy, I often use homemade firestarters (vaseline in cotton wool bound with a rubber band) but the lighter ensures I can always get the little bits of wood burning fairly pronto, and you don't burn your fingers doing it

I admit its a fair chunk of money, but its lasted me ages and I can't see it not lasting for ages. I like the fact it comes with a stand and you can lock it on, useful for lots of things

Yeah, fair do's, we approach things differently, and if i didn't have 5 kids maybe i could splash £35 on a lighter, and knock a few seconds off my 9 minute boil time.

What about a hybrid?

I got a Soto Pocket Torch as part of a promotion on Soto Stoves.

Anyway having used it now for nearly 6 months have to say that its not bad. It uses one of those cheap disposable lighters so no fiddly having to find adapters or butane cans/dealers etc and turns it into a blow torch type lighter at the click of the starter button.

I note that there $20 in the US but £20 here but I still feel that at that price its a good deal.

Ah right ok...is there anything else you could recommend for lighting cold meths, apart from just heat it for longer?

If you're using a drinks can burner, just hold the lighter under the burner for a few seconds to warm the meths before you try to light it.  Assuming your lighter isn't too cold to vent enough gas to work...

bit of string/paper/grass or the failed first match as a wick has always worked for me.
Or two matches struck at once, one head slightly higher than the other to make a 'big match'

Cheap piezo lighters are easier to use than a flint one. Until they run out of batteries...
