I've been trying to find a retailer in the UK that has stocks of caldera cones. I'm looking for either a caldera keg system or a cone system suitable for use with either a AGG 3 cup pot or a Vargo Ti-Lite pot/mug.

Anyone know who has them in stock? Usual suspects (UOG, Hike-lite, Winwoods, etc.) all seem to be out of stock.

Why not buy direct from Trail Designs? Even if you end up paying duty, I don't think it will cost more.

Might be daft but I prefer to buy from UK retailer otherwise I would. Part of it is to do with when I buy online it takes the enjoyment off it if I have to wait for more than a few days for the item. Reckon Trail designs would take some time to deliver over here.

Rand at TD is very good at responding to requests; mail him.

+1 on Ed's comment. I've found TD's customer service to be as good as any. They also often add a freebie to the package IME, if that's any incentive.

-1 on that. Prefer UK retailer. Are there any with stock?

make your own? It's not hard.  The first one I had (from CP's script) was for an AGG 3 cup pot.

I don't know any retailers in UK who stock clones, except the ones you have already mentioned.
Try emailing Trail Designs and ask who else they supply to over here.

TP, why exactly do you want to but from a UK retailer? You said you prefer not to buy online, but UOG etc would be online as well.If you can't find one, would you rather buy a different stove?

One of the things I like about buying from manufacturors like TD, ZPacks, MLD etc is the ability to have something customised to exactly how you want it.

FYI, orders (3) from TD to Turkey have taken a maximum of 2 weeks. If you order something not in stock, it takes them 24 hours to get it in the post IME.

Are you sure that UOG don't have anything in stock? They've seemingly rather a lot of sizes of cones in stock from the trail designs brand page. Not quite all of them perhaps.

Like I said over on BCUK, UOG are showing stock of the CC for the Vargo pot Paul, have you given them a ring yet?

You're right, don't know how I missed that. The keg systems are never in stock though and the AGG neither. Perhaps I should go direct.

I don't mind online UK retailer it is overseas retailers I prefer not to use. I've been buying from highly recommended UK retailers for a few years now after first taking the plunge. I don't have credit cards which I think makes me more exposed to fraud online. The shops I know and use I have either visited and spoken to the owner or staff or they used to post for some time on forums I have been on in the past. A sense of trust if you like.

I do have loads of stoves but kind of want a caldera keg system and I'm not the sort to make my own. As easy as the clone script might be, just because someone else can make one does not mean if I tried it would come out as a serviceable clone. I've tried can stoves for example and the flame pattern (jets and elsewhere) were quite interesting in the attempts I made.

I reckon the vargo pot/mug cone is my only UK option.

I understand your fears with buying online (it took me a long time to take the plunge, and I'm still cautious who I buy from), but I think they're misplaced with respect to Trail Designs. You would be buying direct from the company, not through a third party. IIRC, they have too payment options: credit/debit card or Paypal. BTW, I might be wrong, but I think you get the same coverage for fraud from a debit card as with a credit card. A credit card's advantage is that it gives a guarantee for the goods (if they cost more than a certain limit). Maybe somebody can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not trying to push you to buy from TD if you aren't comfortable, but it would be a shame if you missed out on the stove you want due to fears which are misfounded.

Well you can see how a debit card feels very much scarier with it being connected direct to an account.....
07/03/2012 at 14:33
That would depend on how much money you had in the account, I think, compared to the limit on your credit card. Or is it easier to get the money back from a fraudulent transaction on a credit card than a debit card?

I don't know. But in one case its gone and you need to get it back, while on a credit card you've got a month or so to get it sorted before you're actually affected. Assuming you notice right away of course, which isn't given.
