Hello All,

I thought i would let you all no what great customer service i had from suunto. One of the buttons on my watch started to fail i contacted suunto they said to sent it back to them all free of charge though D.H.L.

One week later the door bell rang it was D.H.L suunto replaced the watch no questions asked.

Well done suunto.

Hi John,

Hi,

Is there any chance you can PM me with the contact details - the bezel from the front of mine seems to have gone walkies - have not had much luck with getting in touch.

Thanks in advance...

You're not the only one. Suunto do have good customer service, but gosh, it must be costing them a huge amount of money because the return rate on those Cores is absolutely astronomical, just through the roof. It's getting to the point where I feel very uncomfortable selling them, Suunto have just not thought the design through. All types of failures.

A real shame, particularly as the Vectors were so reliable and solid for so many years, and the T series seems to work fine too. But don't ever buy an X10. A total crock of shit, the design is terrible.

Oh yeah, and after massive failure on the Cores, what do Suunto do next? A limited edition Core, the Core Extreme! For even more money and probably even more design flaws! Nice one, people.

<facepalm>

I have to disagree I think there customer service is rubbish just spent 15 mins on hold then gave up.

95 euros to fix my vector  or 35 euros to have it returned un-fixed its just a con I don't mind paying a reasonable amount to have it fixed but at the current exchange rate its nearly £85, its not as if it was damaged you would think it would last longer than 3.5 years.

Then to want 35 euros to return my property to me its just not on.

I guess that for Suunto its all a numbers game.... they can't afford to give everyone top quality service i.e. free this and that so some are lucky others aint.

They were very good when I had some work done on a Stinger but others I know at about the same time didn't fair so well.

>Then to want 35 euros to return my property to me its just not on.
Why?
27/04/2011 at 18:27
they say unless I pay 35 euros they wont return the watch, it will be recycled its just a con.
27/04/2011 at 18:39
I'm assuming that there covering their costs in returning it to you. Pretty standard practice really. Why do you feel that its a con?

I understand how frustrating it is but these days (shamefully!) its often more economic to buy a replacement than have a repair done.

I briefly had a Sony Minidisk player that failed 2 weeks after the guarantee finished. It would have cost £15 less to replace the bit than buy a new unit. In protest I bought an iPod and I've not bought another Sony product since... makes me feel better not that Sony would have noticed by looking at there balance sheet mind!

It would not be a problem if they were upfront aobut the cost of repair, I also think that a £150 watch  should last longer than 3.5 years but I suppose that the way of world made to a specifcation not to last.

Anyway its the last Suunto product I ever buy and I would not recommend them to anybody.

I second the terrible customer service from Suunto. I returned a core as it had leaked underwater, they refused to replace it as I had apparently replaced the battery incorrectly (after on 3 months use!)

£150 for a watch to only last 6 months.

Buffalo man.... did you?
28/04/2011 at 16:08
I don't think I did
28/04/2011 at 16:19
Richard, was speaking to a friend about this and he reckons that £85 would be a very reasonable price to have the watch fixed. It all about the technicians time.... go to a car dealers and their garage will charge you about £100/hr an accountant or lawyer much much more!

I had the plastic tabs that hold the battery on my camcorder break (badly designed) then the Firewire port broke meaning the camera was useless as I couldn't get my footage off... called Panasonic and got a quote of about £20 for the plastic facia (£12) and the Firewire connector pin (£6.50) The repairman did the job and presented me with the bill.... £158. It was all labour. What can you do??

So, I think that your no doing that badly!
28/04/2011 at 16:23
Buffalo man, obviously I have no idea what did or didn't happen but I don't think that Sunnto would say that your watch was water damaged if it wasn't. Did you buy it second-hand?
28/04/2011 at 17:25
Buffalo, I would be really pissed if it was me, anyway the battery should last longer than 6 months. Mines had 3 straps and 4 battery's thats nearly £100 just to keep the thing running.

Brought it as brand new watch and it filled full of water in a swimming pool.

The earlier watches had battery issues, however I didn't realise this until I sent it back after it had filled with water.

Send them a stamped addressed padded envelope, tell them to stick it in a post it to you. Even if the postage isn't sufficient, when it arrives at your home you get to decide if you want to pay the extra or not to royal mail which would probably work out a lot less than they want from you in postage fees which I agree with Ricvhard €35 is ridiculous for postage for what is a wristwatch I believe for mountaineers with altitude data etc?

Bedouin, I still have a MiniDisc I've not yet moved with the times but I am very happy with it especially the sound quality which I believe to be a lot better than MP3. Regarding Sony customer service, I have been disappointed with them in the past but with my MiniDisc they have been great.

I needed a new internal battery for it a few years ago but one of the only couple of suppliers in the UK for that part were asking some ridiculous price like £50 for it. I complained to Sony UK about it and they were brilliant. They said even though they have it listed at a similar price they said to me to just post them a cheque for £10 and they would send me one. Bargain. It's still going great and I use it nearly every day.

For me the MD is modern tech considering I didn't really ever buy a CD player, I just use the ones in computers. I only have a small CD collection probably not even halfway through double figures. I still have thousands of vinyl records though. I love the analogue sound you get from Vinyl and also a Donly B cassette tape, you just can't beat it IMHO. As far as Digital stuff goes I think the Sony Atrac system is hard to beat, I've not really been that impressed with the quality of MP3s to change to iPod or similar and I don't think it would be as good for mixed music but more a library of individual tracks or albums of individual tracks? Also don't think the headphones are very good.

I don't like the sound of Buffalo man's experience with Sunto. That sucks.  What exactly is the usp of the sunto watches? Have any of you considered Tissot instead? Are they any good?

Imperial John, sorry have to disagree with €35 being ridiculous.... breaking it down, by the time you take off the 20% VAT (possibly more) add the cost of the packaging and the postage PLUS a person to stick it all together and then present it to the mailing company €35 seem very reasonable to me. Also its important to remember that a technician has spent time with it to see what was wrong with it and what work needed doing to repair it which the company has now provided for... free as the customer has refused the estimate. Doing stuff for free or at very big discounts seems to be what everyone expects YET I doubt any of those people would work for free at their current employer themselves. Fairs fair.

Horses for corses with regards MD.... the fact I can carry 1000's of tracks get the album artwork, do on the go playlists etc not to mention download additional material straight to it makes the MD look like a dinosaur. I agree with you on MP3, with storage so cheap I've encoded everything with AAC. Its worth bearing in mind that Atrac is a closed system your at the mercy of Sony.... which might for you be O.K but could come back to bite you.

IF everything is as Buffalo man says then its a clear case for the Sales of goods Act and merchantable quality.
