Hello, does anybody have any recommendations for a good pair of walking trousers? I had a pair of Rab Pertex trousers but put a hole in them. I did like them, although got a little hot in them and the mud stuck to the outer shell. Anything else to consider?

 Thanks.

Montane do great trousers. The Terra pants (not alpine) are light but extremely tough.

Perhaps a bit more scrambling orientated, but I love my Marmot Scree pants. The only time I don't wear them is if it's baking hot in summer.

Haglofs do a great group of tough walking troos,i have a pair almost 5 yr old and have worn them all year round from wildcamping to doing thd Cuillins ridge in them and i could still pass them off as new if i wanted to flog them on.

Paramo Fuera troos if it's quite warm otherwise I'd suggest Norrona or Bergans although I've only had my Norrona troos a short while and they can be a bit warm, although they do come in three weights and I've got the mid and heavy weight versions. I've not tried my Bergans troos yet but they look smart and may be water resistant. I'll definitely try the Norrona ligtweights when I can afford to splash the cash.

Montane are fine if you're tall and thin; their leg lengths seem to go up with their waist sizes.

I use Keela, a seemingly little known scottish company, and have had 5 pairs of their trousers over the years.

I've got a pair of Montane Terra's which I wear all the time, not just for walking or hiking. The venting on the thighs is great if it's a little warm and if you use the Nikwash TX direct and wash, it improves the water-resistance no end. I also have the Terra Alpine's which are very smart and ultra-comfy. My Vaude walking trousers have also lasted over 5 years and don't show much signs of wear.

I'd recommend Montane Terras too.

I found their regular trousers to have strange leg lengths, but they now come in short and long leg lengths

XL long trousers here!
