Washing an Event jacket.

So i've had my Karrimor jacket 3 weeks now and it needs a good rinse as it's a bit muddy and wetting out. Do i just lob it in the machine on a rinse cycle and let it drip dry. ?

I'm familiar with goretex but this is my first Event jacket.

Not sure, I don't have one.

Search for care instructions. Should be on web.

But I'm sure washing it in liquid soap, like Goretex, would be OK. With an extra rinse maybe.

You back on feet and out and about, Twigs?

Twiggy,

As Husky says liquid soap will do the trick, make sure to wash out the detergent drawe.

I normally wash base and mid layers first in liquid soap and then do rain gear and gaiters, I put them in a mesh bag.

Hobbling my way back Paul and no set backs as yet.

Thanks for the replies.

I've read some people use normal detergent firstly, then liquid soap to wash out any residue of that. It ony needs a rinse really so will try that firstly whilst waiting more opinions.

Ooh, just had another look at the jacket and there are wash instructions, there are two labels sewn sorta on top of each other that were kinda stuck together.

Wash with a technical detergent then tumble dry to rejuvenate thw waterproofing, or words to that effect.

I hand wash my Rab eVent smock in a bucket with soap flakes, a good rinse and then into the dryer on the lowest setting for about 20 minutes.

I spoke to Montane about this a coule of years ago and the said their is no need for tch wash if you liquid soap or detergent, they did say the tumble drying it the key to Dwr renewal.

I have washed my Montane Quickfire jacket and Rab Bergen troos at a dozen times and they look like new.

That's a problem for me, our all new all singing and dancing washing machine has no heat setting bar nuclear, and the shortest you can run it for is 40 minutes.

There wasn't anything wrong with the old one that had all the options, but our lass had to have a new one.

Is there any type of soap flakes people can reccomend? I have a rab bergen thats also starting to wet out even though its only a few weeks old though at least this one isnt letting in but we have had some really "mucky" rain lately thanks to that tropical wind we had lately.

A tip that works for me.

If you don't have a tumble dryer. Put a folded bath towel over a radiator, put 'what ever' on top, heat will 'key' DWR and towel will keep from melting. Change around if required, so all of gets heated.

Oh well Twigs, we all got to have our new toys

Crag, any brand will do once it states it's non bio.

Crag, you can get Pure Liquid Soap from Tesco's.

Don't look at middle shelves, it's likely to be on bottom or top shelf, that's the bits most peeps don't look at.

What the hell is wrong with the link facility.

Try again.

I'm a little concerned about my jacket now, when new 4 weeks ago it beaded water beautifully but now the face fabric is wetting out almost instantly.

I gave it a quick handwash last night with liquid soap then several hand rinses but now there's virtually no beading at all.

I've used this for 7 days in total, surely the dwr isn't gone already. ?

I suppose i could reproof it but i'm thinking i shouldn't need to so soon? also i've not "heat activated" it after the wash as i'm guessing i shouldn't have to also, or is this normal for Event garments? i've read they need cleaning more often than Gore does but after such minimal use on the rolling downs of Wiltshire. !

I'm also now doubly confused as on the Event care site it specifically says you should drip dry garments, whilst the tag on the jacket states "Cool tumble dry to rejuvenate water repellant finish".

Not sure what soap you used but I'd try the drier treatment
05/07/2012 at 15:32

Liquid soap mate, as i've always used.

I'm very reluctant to stick it in our dryer as it only has two settings, the timer from 40 - 150 minute, or sensor drying with iron, hangerand wardrobe options, you can't open the door until the cycle is finished so i don't want to risk knackering it.

Probably best not to, luckily our dryer is older than Moses.
