You can't freeze the Travel Tap. I've just bought a bunch of chlorine dioxide solution for an overseas trip. Having pissed about with Steripens, filters and Travel Taps over the years, I can't be arsed with any of them. I'd buy iodine if they'd still sell it to me.

I once contacted Giles at Drinksafe about using the filter in sub-zero conditions. He took the view that it could be damaged by freezing while wet and recommended trying to avoid it. If you're using the inline version you can open it up and shake it pretty clear of water, then keep it as well insulated as possible in your tent or pack. That might be a bit trickier with the bottle designs.

You can detatch the filter from the bottle Matt, it's about the size of an egg so easily stored away from frost etc.

Aye, I'd forgotten that but you're right, certainly with the second and latest versions. I'm not sure you could with the original Travel Tap because you unscrewed the opposite end of the bottle for filling, so I don't think you could get at the filter at all easily.

You're correct,  you couldn't remove the filter from the original TT.

@ rob dixon 2... i plan to start in the south of sweden. My girl friend lives in Malmö so plan to use the local trails for practice, all part of skåneleden before heading of up north to kungsleden, i know alot of the water here is fresh, but in the south there is a lot more agriculture and a denser population so i would rather ere on the side of caution.
