Hi - am looking in the sales for some good waterproof trousers that are easy to get on and off over boots - eg. I was thinking of the Marmot Precip full-zip pants.

Looking for men's and women's.

Any suggestions (upto £40)?

Thanks .... Simon.

Berghaus Deluge. About £40 (can be had for £30-and-a-bit online). Full length zips, can be zipped down from the top for venting, breathable enough. Ive worn them for about 4 years now and have recently ripped them, and will surely destroy them when I start wearing crampons next month, but I will probably buy another pair.

Have a pair myself but must have got a bad pair, never kept me dry from the first time i wore them,AQUA FOIL,not the best waterproof material out there but they are a great pant for easy on-off,full length zips, wich can be used for venting.
have no faith in them so bought some goretex berghaus alpine pants(£140)..

I've only ever been wet in them after several hours of driving rain in high winds. It often doesnt matter too much to me anyway as in cold weather I have HH baselayer bottoms so im warm and wet at least.

I tried everything to make mine better from nikwaxing them to venting them berghaus tech pant baselayers but as soon as it rained the week spot for me was the rain running off my jacket onto the side of my hips and bottom area were always the first part to go.plus i couldnt sit down on anything that was damp or moist as this also let water through..all in all i still wear them but just as a over trouser until the rain starts then on with my good pair...

a bit more than you intended to spend but a very strong pair of over-trousers and 3/4 length zips for easy fit and venting...

The Berghaus Blade lightweight, breathable 2.5 Layer Aquafoil® Light overtrousers with 3/4 inch zips look nice (only 230g and £60).

I had an alternative idea to full zips:

use baggy no-zip trousers with (rear)straps above knee and at ankle, in light rain wear over front of leg (secured at waist, above knee and ankle), so well ventilated (similar to rainlegs as used by cyclists). In heavy rain, step into trousers and use straps as compression straps to stop flapping. (could use mcyclist plastic bag over boot trick)

Alternatively, why not huge internal storm flap and leave out the full length zip, just use several (five/six) patchs of velcro at waist top of thigh, above below knee at ankles.

Also, in full zip trousers, why bother with the draw string, the two velcro strips could be used for adjustment.

Would making the trouser waist band out of 2in mesh not be more comfortable and ventilated?

I have just ordered the Marmot Precip full-zips for £40 including delivery from the US - without delivery they are just £27.

Makes you wonder why they cost over double in the UK?

PS I hope I don't need to return them!

OMM Kameilikas are good as well, very stretchy, cheap and more durable than you'd think.

Jo and i have berghaus deluge pants, they seem to work fine for us. Just washed them and re-nikwaxed them, 2nd time in a year and after about 30hrs use this time.
