Waterproof trousers

I've always shyed away from waterproof trousers since I was a scout and wore cheap ones which made you sweat so bad there was more water on the inside than there was coming down from the sky.
I dabbled with gaitors and must confess for most of my needs they are fine, although I need some new ones but that may be another thread.
After a recent event and with some things that are planned in the future I think that I could really do with trying waterproof trousers again.

So i'm looking for recommendations for a pair of waterproof trousers budget up to £100 I could go a bit higher if it was going to be worthwhile. Being a larger chap who sweats fairly heavily something that's breathable is essential.

Decide how important ease of on and off is.  I want mine particularly easy on and off for use with crampons and skis so I use a pair with full side zips.  In general, the longer the side zips the easier they are to get on and off, with full length allowing you in and out without moving your feet.

But, more zips is more cost, more weight and actually slightly less waterproof, so deciding where your priorities lie in that respect is helpful.

Pete.

I don't enjoy the hot sweaty sensation either.

I find my Rab Bergens very comfortable though. very breathable Event fabric, 3/4 length venting zips, which make it very easy to get them on and off.

Mine did fail after nearly 2 years (leaky bum!) , but Rab replaced FOC.

I'm sure most top-end 3 layer fabric troos with long zips are probably good these days - just find some that fit.

Easy on and off would be very useful so I'll look for long zips

Berghaus Deluge well within your budget along with full length zips, wouldn't recommend with Crampons though. Cannot fault mine, usually on offer at GO-Outdoors at various times of the year. Very light, not as light as the Berghaus paclite version but more robust.

Got to agree with Andy, deluge's are brilliant for the money, also quite cheap on amazon.

Another Deluge user here, i wouldn't use anything else.

I also use Deluges - good features, fit well, waterproof, breathable and not too pricey.
