its that time again when i narrow down what shell jacket i would like.
was just at the haglöfs store in stockholm trying on the spitz II jacket and the cirque jacket.

both are amazing jackets but which one?
my activities include mountain climbing (4000m or higher) and winter cross skiing trips (from a week to a month).
both jackets fit me well in XL size. the spitz was tight across the shoulder while the cirque was tight in the arm pits.

what would u pick doing those activities?
although i'm a HUGE haglöfs fan, would u recommend any other jackets?

thanks for reading!

I always find a wee niggle in fit with a lot of Haglofs stuff.

I cant advise on the jackets but can say the tightness in the arm pits will eventually drive you bonkers. I had 2 jackets like this before...its ok for a bit...then becomes increasingly uncomfortable and annoying...then begins to drive you insane!

Did you try on any of their Proof fabric jackets? I was all set on getting a Cirque until I tried one on... while it felt like a great jacket I couldn't get on with how 'crisp-packety' the Pro Shell fabric felt.

Ended up getting a Haglofs Zenith (basically a Spitz made of Proof), which feels much nicer and has a certain amount of stretch to it (and was half price in Cotswold to boot).

Still have to see how it performs long-term, but have worn it out in some pretty heavy rain and hail storms in the western isles and very happy so far (do miss having proper hand warmer pockets though).

For ski touring I don't particularly like hard shells unless it's raining or really wet sleet, which it isn't that often.  Paramo jackets are great for ski tours: the extra warmth is usually welcome anyway and they're much more breathable than any conventional hard shell.  If fit is a problem you can get an outfit like Cioch to custom-build you one.

Pete.
