Yup, thats what you need.

Some people have the ability to hold a crap in for days, I don't so rather than getting all hung up about it I just except that it will happen at some point and take a trowel, also some antibacterial hand wash, you can buy little bottles of it from chemist's or supermarkets. Enjoy!

A rucsac, a shelter, food, means of heating food, water/bottles, First Aid Kit, two sets of base layers, (one for daytime and a dry set for shelter use), waterproofs, map/s, compass, cleaning stuff, (you and food gear), sleeping bag, cutlery or Spoork for eating/preparing food.

Any medication you need and 2 days extra, just in case.

Of course the right boots/shoes for what you will be doing........ Worn before you go to make sure they won't give you problems.

A torch. Head torches are best.

Hip flask (with whisky, brandy, rum or similar).

Shovel
Duck tape
Black bin bags
Torch
Bag of lime
Attitude adjustment stick
..... Oh crap... Wrong list

At least you didn't have a suitcase or a saw on that list Rog

" i dont want to be without anything even if i am mr improvisation but i also dont want extra weight." Take exactly what you would when non-wild camping only factoring in no organised toilets.

it's camping. it doesn't matter where you are.

perhaps not a dayglo coloured shelter or clothing.

thanks for all the replies im currently in the process of buying kit for this trip i have rucksacks tent and loads of other little bits and pieces but most of my camping gear is way to big to hump up into the hills for example my stove i have is a two ring one which is a bit of overkill...........................possibly. im not looking to spend to much as child on the way and all. does anyone know of any reasonable priced sleeping bags and mats also which will preform well for the monies
28/03/2011 at 20:29

Paul, what season/s are you going camping?

Where? Low/high?

Yes, a two ring burner is a bit much....you can get a pocket rocket clone from Gelert for £10-£15 or an actual second hand pocket rocket  from ebay for the same money.

Or you can make a meths stove for nothing. CCF camping mat for a fiver, Tesco down bag for 30 quid ish.....

Oh come on, Nick. You could get a responsible adult to do the cutting
28/03/2011 at 20:45

I don't know any....

Did the OP say where he is going and for how long? For a local overnighter you don't need half that stuff. Just shelter and something to lie on and in. For 2 weeks in the hills you need the full list to be comfortable and safe. And that can weigh anything up to 60 lbs or more unless you get the right things. Which can be expensive.

So I'm not sure that we can answer the question yet.

im going the start of may and will be camping high the area will be the brecon becons. i have looked into the meths stove but dont want to run the of having any sort of accident i e it popping ect and covering me in flames lol. have many people used these meths stoves on the hill if so what sort of results are you getting. also any people recommend hexymide stoves as i could blag a few .
28/03/2011 at 21:22

No. NO! DON'T ask about meths stoves, the result will make the Libya situation look peaceful......

Hexamine works but is inefficient. If you can get them cheap/free though, do so, it does work.
